I liked this book, I really did, but parts of it were boring and I don't know if I feel strongly enough about the story to read more books in the series.

Although there were certain elements of all urban fantasy in print right now that was rehashed, I did kind of enjoy this story. The main character did not hide information from her friends just to create an arbitrary plot device. She was kind of a kickass lady. And there was a certain amount of consistency in the story that I appreciated. Pretty well pulled together although I would not have read it if it hadn't been sitting at eye level at a used bookstore and I hadn't had some cash burning a hole in my pocket (because I was in a used bookstore... ya know... that's where the money gets too hot to keep and stuff.... what? only for me?)

The synopsis on the back of the book is a great starting discription of what the story is about. I am always a sucker for a paranormal mystery action book.

This book constantly moves forward with a lot happening. There is always some action going on or mystery detail being given, and the good guys are not always in the lead. I enjoy trying to figure out how all the pieces of the puzzle fit together - who is doing this, why are they, and what are all the connections to figure out what the plan is.

Evy wakes up on a morgue table not knowing; where she is, what happened, or even any phone numbers to make a call for help. Let alone realizing she is not in her own body anymore. You meet Evy right on page one and start the story right with her. The memory loss is handled wonderfully! The memory loss is only for a particular time frame and you learn what is lost with Evy. You feel the emotions right with Evy as she learns the wonderful and horrific things with her. As you meet other characters (human and paranormal) you learn what Evy knows as you come to them - either right before or as you meet them. You learn of how they live and what they believe right before she goes to visit them or right with the visit. I really liked how this is added in with what is going on.

I felt Evy's character was well built. She has a strong personality. (She is definitely someone I would not want to get on the bad side of.) You see Evy stay true to her self yet still confused thinking part of Chalice, the girls body she is borrowing, is what is adding to her confusion. Evy wonders off and on through the book as to why Chalice was dead and why she choose this body to come back in. Even though Evy is true to her attitude and comments, you watch as she slowly starts to grow.

Evy knows many things of the paranormal world being she is a hunter looking for rogue dregs (paranormal creatures). Yet she learns many great things of the different creatures as well. I liked the mixture of the paranormal with the "real" world in this book. I think the paranormal was just right here, there was no over-kill on the creatures, and the story stays focused on Evy. I do have a few curiousities of just a few small things in this world Kelly Meding has created, but I think these will come up in book two and be clearified a little more.

So, if you woke up in another body knowing all the crazy things that happen in the world regarding the paranormal creatures and thought there was something you knew and was afraid to say it on your death bed yet can't remember what happened and who did it.... Who or what would you trust?

Great book! I love how it was very fast paced and action-packed. Evy handled all of the chaos of her new life very well. She was great.

very dark fantasy.

PG-18 in language and innuendo.

Excellent story. I loved the beginning with Evy not having a clue what's going on. It leaves the reader feeling the same way but I liked it. This is definitely a series I'm going to continue.

While the basic concept is intriguing, this book had weak writing and a mediocre plot. I'll give this series one more chance, but then I'm done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this! it was gritty, harsh yet somehow very romantic. yes some places it was a little predictable, but most of the time you get curveballs and don't know what end is up. I'm not really sure how I like the idea of the 24'ish deadline format Meding is proceeding with in the sequel, but I'll comment on that when I get to it, 'cause in this book it worked rather well - it was there to give an indication of time, how it's spend and ups the suspension curve a bit, but not overwhelmingly so.
I liked the whole romance part between Evy and Wyatt and how through most of the book you still aren't quite sure if you can trust him. and it's refreshing to get a whole new look on vamps and elves and such. great start to a new series, I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on the next one.

Evie is a Hunter who keeps the supernatural creatures from harming humans. So when her team is attacked, she is stunned to be set up for their murder, hunted down by other Hunter teams and ends up murdered. So she wakes up in the morgue in the body of another girl with no memory of how she died. Now Evie has 3 days of this resurrection spell to find out who set her up, who had her killed and why she has been brought back. The Hunters are still chasing her, the supernatural creatures also want her dead and she has no idea who to trust...

Brilliant book! Evie is a tough resilient girl who kicks supernatural ass for a living. Now she is stuck in the body of a girl without all that training and those limitations hinder her ability to fight the way she wants to. It is difficult for her to be in this situation over which she has less control than she is used to. She needs to find answers but it is not a slow moving plot like some UF books. She is on the go the whole time, trying to avoid her former team, seeking help from the monster underworld and relying on the dead girl's friend to help her.

The character development is good. I liked Evie as I enjoy a strong female MC but the idea of taking her skills away with her being in the wrong body is an interesting twist which makes her think more about how she can deal with things. The fact that there is a time limit on this borrowed body means that the tension is always high and the plot is fast moving. I could have been happy without the romance element but I didn't feel that it overshadowed the plot so I was ok with it in general terms.

There are plenty of supernatural monsters in the book to keep most fans happy. Vampires, bridge trolls, fey, goblins, elves, gargoyles to name a few and I enjoyed seeing all these creatures in one book. No wonder they call it Dreg City! The plot has twists and there are certainly a few surprises along the way that I didn't see coming. I think everything I could want in a UF book is here.

This was a great debut book and I am really looking forward to seeing what happens next.I have the rest of the series waiting for my attention!
