There's a line near the end of the book that is something to the effect of "don't waste your time reading mediocre meta horror" - that sums up the way I feel about this book. Some sections had the potential to be funny, but fell flat. And much of the dated language and dated references do not land today. Besides, so much of the book was just parroting out overdone tropes and popular film plots that there was nothing new or exciting. I've read (and tried to read) other books by Seth Grahame-Smith in the past and I think it's time to accept that he is not the author for me.

I mean, I didn’t hate it. It’s satire and offered a laugh here and there. Quick read to help with a book slump.

Hilariously informative. takes the terror out of thoughts about horror movies. most useful if you're in a horror movie and need to know how to make it to the end credits.

It used too many (unnecessary) ableist and homophobic slurs and it just wasn’t good, it saw horror into a too comedy light reaching a point where it just dumbly misunderstood horror themes
Moderate: Homophobia, Fatphobia, and Ableism

There were a few cute comments, and the movie list at the back, really are essential horror movies. Not sad I read it.
