I am in love with this wordbuilding, steampunk magic Egypt with tantalising hints of other worlds. I gotta read the rest of this series.

I think I'd love this if I could stand steampunk. The setting was great, the writing fantastic, I don't care for the steampunk, but I enjoyed the plot nonetheless.

I really did hate the whorephobia though, stop shitting on sex workers you assholes.

Wow. Just .. wow. 

The setting, the intricacy of the world-building, the characters, the lore - this was so interesting and enjoyable, I loved everything about it! 😍

Plus, Suehyla El-Attar's narration elevated this to being an easy favourite. 

So glad that there's more from this universe left for me to explore!

There was a lot of focus on the djinn’s penis size.

I was very excited for this as I love djinn folklore, but the steampunk setting didn’t do it for me. I found the resolution predictable and underwhelming.

I gave this audiobook a quick listen and truly enjoyed the story. It's a short, fast-paced story set in 1912 steampunk Cairo. The cast of characters is interesting, but Fatma herself is by far the most intriguing. She's unapologetically herself, as unusual as that is for the times, and I absolutely loved her dry sense of humor. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more of this unique and innovative series.
