A Perfect Machine by Brett Savory

A unique read with great action scenes and characters, and a really different sort of transformation. I enjoyed the world-building, though some things were left without being properly explained, leaving a few gaps in the world logic and some confusion about how things link up. The ascension idea was really cool and dark, though, with Henry losing himself slowly in the process and the world losing so much more by the end.

Machines transcending, and a Runner type plotline... Good stuff!

I tried, I really did. But no amount of effort made me get into this read.

This is such an original science fiction book. Honestly, can't say I've ever come across a plot quite like this one. Mind- and genre-bending, full of action and some major concepts, not least of which is "who's really pulling the strings here" and are they good or evil? Won't rehash the plot, suffice to say I really enjoyed this novel. Savory's got loads of talent and can build worlds, even ones as bizarre yet very familiar as this, with ease. If you're looking for sci-fi, with a story somewhat left of your comfort zone, get this book. Brilliant novel.
