A sweet sci-fi romance.

I liked Nikhil and in most cases Mac. I didn't like how they had such a hard time seeing that they came from different cultures. I think that was the easy way out for the author to get as much drama in as possible.

I really liked Nikhil and Mac. While there always seems to be some form of communication issues between the H & h, this novel, the characters were more willing to talk instead of letting it fester. It was shorter (it seemed) in story time than the other novels, and set up the next one nicely. I'm looking forward to listening to the next one.

Narrator note: I liked that the "story narrator" was not the same as the H. And the H's voice actor, Griffin Murphy...wowza! Very bass, very sexy....gotta find more he has narrated. :)

So, scifi alien romance erotica. I like the world, set up and premise and even where it is going but... not really how it gets there or even where it got to. It didn't really finish what was started and it leaves the next couple started in the epilogue. That is not so bad but... several things are started to be answered/asked and not complete in the plot. Will the Kaliszians except a gay couple? They don't figure out who planned the attack or finish that plot line at all. It is quite obvious to the reader as the author makes the bad guys super obvious, but the Kaliszians are not running to see how the attack was formulated. Or maybe they are but we don't get to see it? So since this is erotica and the getting together of the couple is the main point, I won't usually take much off on these points.

So the couple. All the pushing away and fights seem fabricated and childish. Running away and not talking it over... even worse since if he did this, the woman would be screwed. Kissing is a no, no except with a mate. OK I see that but even he didn't seem so blasé about virginity when it came down to it. I was really psyched when I thought that he was the virgin but no, once again it has to come around the the woman. Like it is some sort of proof that she is not a whore. Argh! So they both irritated me quite a bit and she did more than him. Her overreaction when he was being so accommodating. I see her being hurt but to reject him... it was total over reaction to the situation. And then the bead and over reaction there too. And then wanting total honesty with her when she wasn't giving it to him, and it wasn't directly related to them at least once. So even though I like them together at first, I started just wanting him to tell her to take a hike at the end... or vise versa.

Did I like it... over all, kind of, but the couple irritates. I still like the world and probably will read the next to see how the two nations Tornians and Kaliszians work it out. I hope the next couple is less irritating.

The story was good, it fits well with the other series. Not sure where it fits on the timeline... I guess after book two.

The attitude towards sex workers was a real harsh squick to me. I hope the author has grown as a person since writing this. I also hope the women in these series get to be more independent than what we've seen so far.

Series: Kaliszians #1
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Squad Leader Nikhil Kozar and his squad are clearing out the mines that the Zaludians have been illegally mining on Pontus. While cleaning out the newest mine Nikhil comes across a female from an unknown species that has been badly beaten. While he rushes to save her, his True Mate Bead transfers over to her forever changing both of their lives.

This series is a side series of the Tornian series. I highly recommend reading it before coming to this book because it will make some aspects of this book easier to understand.

Mackenzie “Mac” Wharton has been kidnapped from Earth, forced into slavery, and almost beaten to death. She wakes and finds herself attracted to the largest male she has ever seen, and also her savior. Together Mac and Nikhil struggle to cope with their new relationship, their different cultures, and enemies trying to separate them.

I quite adored these two. Nikhil is a huge and honorable warrior, but he struggles with his size because of childhood bullies. I really loved watching him struggle with the cultural differences and all the changes having a mate bring. I think I might love the Kalizians as much as I do the Tornians now. Mackenzie is a strong woman who has had a very rough life. She has lost her whole family but gained a new family with Jen and the men. She has found her soulmate in Nikhil.

Like I have said in previous reviews for Eidem’s books, there are editing and plot issues in this book but, for me, the story is so captivating that I barely notice them. I just love a good alien romance, especially when the hunky males are clueless on how to deal with opinionated women.

I am still conflicted how I feel about this one. I picked this up despite of ugly-ugly cover because I read one of my friends review for its sister-series. This has Ice Planet Barbarian feel to it but more militia and political drama thrown into it.

What got on my nerves -

spelling mistakes (there are few not much)
POV change (from first to third?? in the middle chapter - that had definitely tested my resolve to finish this)
Repetition (Oh my God! so many repeated conversations - I won't lie, I skipped it)
Nikhil's my 'little one' crap (no, he is not calling any kid but his true mate - do I need to say more?)

But True Mate stuff was interesting enough with beads and all alien 'History'. This series has potential but there are so many things you have to ignore in order to enjoy the story, sometimes mistakes out weight the good stuff. Anyways I finished this and still wants to read Jen's story so let's see...

This is an extension of the Torian series, Wray,Grim etc. I would recommend you read the previous series first as there is a tie in in this book.
If you have read this author before you know her Male characters are possessive, respectful and faithful.
Nikhil is an amazing Hero. He is a large warrior so he has done hang up about his size and doesn't feel worthy.
It's a sweet story but also has a hard edge in the background involving some not very nice treatment from other races.

DNF @ 60%-ish. I remember reading the other series by this author and really liking it. Unfortunately this was not up to the same standard of the other series and was ultimately a waste of time and money.

First off, for $5 I expect there to be significantly less grammatical errors than there were. This book didn’t appear to be edited at all.

Next, I’m not sure if it’s my luck that I’m finding several books like this, or if it’s a current trend with authors, but it sucks: the multiple POVs from -everyone-. Even the had guys, the dude characters, some random nobody with no name has a POC. The worst part is the switching between without indications and you’re left going “wtf???”.

Lastly, this book wasn’t planned, organized, or thought through very well. It’s a mess with no real story. It’s mostly the FMC getting upset about dumb shit and the guy trying to figure out why. Nothing much else. Really boring and a snooze fest.
