Definitely like where this is going. The world-building was pretty easy to follow, but I did dislike how oblivious the main character is to everything and how everyone is lying to her the entire time.

I really loved this book, it had all the elements of a fantastic YA fantasy. Jo and Victoria are sisters who couldn’t be more different. When their mother dies, and they are forced to face the truth of their origins, they are brought into a world they never would’ve guessed existed. Within the world, they each have their own roles, one as a Reaper and one as a Guardian.

Jo was my favorite character. She was feisty and strong. She did not back down even when other characters did.

The thing that bothered me about this book though was the two six month jumps within the story. The first is when Jo is first brought into the Reaper world and the second is just after she begins reaping. I feel as if a lot of the story is lost for these jumps. These time periods would’ve shown some real character development and would’ve helped the reader to divulge into this book’s world more thoroughly. With the time skip, I felt as if there was a bit of an info dump to explain it all, and it’s a shame because the book has so much going for it.

4.5 stars! Though the story seemed to start off a bit rushed - there are a few big time jumps in the start of the book, in the end, the time that was jumped really was irrelevant and I understand why it was done. But in the moment, it was a bit jarring. However, the story, once it really got moving, was fantastic. Such an interesting world, with those with some amount of angel blood becoming guardians or reapers, and the other side of the world being the demonborn, and the nemesis of the angel born. Jo is such an interesting character. She finds her place as a reaper, makes good friends (seriously, the side characters in this book are fantastic, James especially), and is able to use her powers well. When she teams up with Caius to find out why so many souls are being lost, it’s a journey that changes everything, in more ways than one. A definite enemies to lovers story, it’s primarily told from Jo’s POV, but at the end of each chapter we get a glimpse, just a glimpse, into Caius’ thoughts. At first this is a bit jarring, but it works so well in giving us just enough of a view of the character that I was constantly looking forward to these little snippets. Because Jo is a true hybrid angel, she is hunted and feared by both sides, even she doesn’t know or understand the true level of her powers. And now Jo feels like she has put everyone she loves in danger, and is determined to make it right. The cliffhanger at the end is perfect for the story. By the end of the book, I was all in on this story. The tension, the action, the slow burn, it has it all, and left me wanting more.

This has so many fun things going on. Angels, demons, reapers, magic!

After the death of their mom, Jo and her sister find out there's a lot going on they didn't know about when the reapers showed up to take their mom away and realized that the girls could see them. Of course, something goes wrong and she gets paired up with a super hot guy from the dark side to try to find out what's going on. There's more to their histories than they thought and they end up on the run. I'm excited to see where this is going.

Entertaining tale of Jo finding her place in the worlds beyond our own. She discovers she is more than a mere mortal. As her heritage and connection to the other worlds is unveiled she will find the role she has to play in a story thousands of years in the making.

Jo learns she is part angel, and more. Becoming a reaper, she travels between the worlds and begins unraveling her true story.

You will enjoy this YA fantasy that combines angels, demons, reapers, guardians, and other denizens of the heavens and hells. Give it a try.

Powerful!

The book intrigued me when the author was nominated for one of my Best Indie Titles of 2017 awards on my author blog, and the author was nice enough to share the story with me for a review. This YA fantasy is filled with twists and strong characters, who have depth. It was exciting and riveting, and Trosper writes a good story. She brings in different worlds and themes and melds them together into one great story. This is the first book I've read of Trosper, and it won't be my last. It was one of those books that kept the reader engaged, and I think it was truly magical. It grasps the reader and doesn't let go, and Jo was a character I won't soon forget.

This was my first book from A.D. Trosper and I was pleasantly surprised. A new take on the mythos of the Morgane, heaven and hell. I have many questions yet not answered but I’m looking forward to seeing them unveiled in the next two books. Strong characters and a emotional roller coaster.
