EpicFest 2023 author. This one reads like a short story collection for very young readers, which is awesome. I thought some headings sounded familiar: turns out you can get the stories individually as easy readers too. I like Yasmin and her spunk.

These books are adorable. I was in the process of putting together a bibliography of children's books for one of my library classes when I came across this. I was so entranced by the story, the art, the lessons, and the representation that I proceeded to buy every Yasmin book after going through this one. I also love the back materials. In each of the books there are about 4 pages dedicated to discussing the lessons from the stories, teaching Urdu phrases, having a blurb on Pakistan and Pakistani history, and having a related craft.

Great choice for kids who are ready to move to chapter books but still need the support of lots of illustrations and short, direct stories. I *love* the illustrations - just adorable - and Yasmin is an extremely relatable character. The illustrations and text make Yasmin's ethnicity clear, but really it's just a collection about a little girl whose family happens to be Pakastani. I read this with a student and she really enjoyed the short Urdu glossary at the end of the book. Already purchased a copy for my own classroom.

I received an eARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a super cute and fun read. Each of the stories engages the curiosity and creativity of young children through short illustrated anecdotes that present a problem or challenge and lead to a solution through Yasmin exercising her imagination and brainstorming. Yasmin's Pakistani family and heritage are seamlessly integrated into the story, and the final pages include a glossary and facts sheet that teach a little Urdu and Pakistani culture. In short, it's a great read that works as both a window and mirror book.
