It’s been a while since I read one of these books by Reichs (I binge read a bunch of them years ago) and it was just the right book for me at the moment. The books can be a little formulaic at times but they’re enjoyable. And I appreciate that Reichs likes the details of the science, even if it goes over my head sometimes (though she often explains it well enough for me to get the gist). Brennan is a bit annoying at times (seriously we’re on book nine and she still hasn’t divorced her cheating husband?) but the book series hasn’t devolved into the soap opera that the tv show did. There’s just enough personal drama to break up the somewhat depressing mystery that Brennan is trying to solve. I was interested in whodunnit but not really actively trying to figure it out; I kind of let it all play out. Reichs usually does a good job of making the solution make sense even if you didn’t guess it. And there are some good tense scenes. Overall enjoyable read; might take a break from this series again but definitely coming back to it.
