3.5 rounded up - Read aloud with the kids

There were times that put them into fits of giggles...but also times it was too overwhelming for them and they literally ran away.

I think the first 70% was decent and then the end was a bit much.

There is a lot of "animals die and that helps the forest live on," which is true but also can be hard for kids. Also the robots and humans have rifles and use them to kill animals and robots and that was way too triggering for my child who has some PTSD from active shooter drills at school (don't get me started...)

They enjoyed it and were ready to move on to the next book in the series but I'm not quite sure if we will or not.

Great book about how a robot adapts to the wild. Learning about being part of a family.

Read this based on a recommendation from a Twitter thread about middle-grade books with remarkable prose styles and while this was a fine read, I wasn’t sure it was particularly distinctive (but then I haven’t read a lot of middle-grade in awhile!). Would have loved even more wildness (turning the hunter robots???) but didn’t feel like my time was wasted. Couldn’t believe this book too turned out to be about parenthood, that should have been my clue.
