I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So, I am not entirely sure what to think of this one. At times quite good, but at other times I just found things going wrong a bit too much and it seemed over the top/distracting. I mean, each time they would reach a point, get closer to the beacon in time, and then BOOM things explode, people get murdered, or other things. I get that this is a world full of pain/hurt/death, but it was just too much and felt unnatural, just a way to get the story more exciting.
I liked the idea of the bracelets, though we see that not everyone is happy with the chosen children. I hadn't expected THAT to happen to the kids with the bracelets. I had some ideas, but never expected the story to take a route to that. It was quite an interesting one.
There was a lot of gore, to the point I just wanted to stop reading. I am just not that into gore these days, it makes my stomach flop and swirl. Not something I want.
I did love the relationship between sister and brother, that was really sweet.
The ending had me going YAS because of who we saw there.

'We Live' by Inaki Miranda and Roy Miranda is a graphic novel about a dying earth and one last chance to save humanity.

It is about 60 years from now and the earth has become a hostile planet. Weird diseases turn humans in to zombie-like creatures. Plant and animal life have become predatory. In the midst of this humanity is dying, but there is one chance. Strange alien bracelets appear on specific children, and they, and one guardian, are invited aboard a rocket to another planet.

This was a bleak story. Characters appear and disappear in sometimes horrific ways. In spite of that, it's not a bad story. Also the art is pretty good. As a bonus, there are QR codes in the story that lead to music to be listened to while reading the story.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Content Warning: Graphic depictions of death and violence. More specifics below.

The Hunger Games, But Illustrated.

The description of this book says the story takes place in a world of violence and beauty, and that’s pretty accurate. I didn’t realize how graphic the illustrations would be - hopefully this aspect is made more clear in the published version. So, not for me, but if you like action, blood, gore, and an abundance of children being murdered, you would probably enjoy it!

I was drawn to this story because I was interested in the apocalyptic future of humans continuing to either sit by or take part in destroying everything and everyone around them in their greed. Once I got started, I enjoyed the strong bonding and loyalty that the characters had in protecting each other on their dangerous journey. There was lots of action and tension, but I appreciated that there was some time up front to get to know and love the main characters before they got swept up in the fight for their lives.

Superhero Origin Story?
Seems like it is.

It reminded me a lot of SHAZAM! With the whole Children becoming adult superhero's thing going on.

I don't know who though lime green test was a good idea, but it was the most painful thing I've ever tried to read.

Uses violent child death as a story hook over and over again. Lazy and personally triggering. It's too bad, because the art is fantastic.

What a pleasant surprise I got when I read this graphic novel!

Not only works with an amazing story that touches the fiber of what it means to be human and to hope for a future, but also a masterful tease of the senses, both sight, with amazing color palettes and designs, and hearing with a beautifully crafted soundtrack that accompany key moments in the story and provide the immersive experience desired.

I felt I got the jackpot with this e-arc and I NEED to continue with the story to know where those little heroes will get!

An e-ARC of this book was kindly provided by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

La combinación del arte visual con la música que proponen los autores hace que sea una de las mejores obras de independiente americano que haya leído en muchos meses.
