I was really excited to see where the story ends. The previous books set up a number of threads, and I thought the resolution was really well done. For a while, I thought it would go differently (but dont wanna spoil), and was pleasantly surprised about
how a siren can kill a god
. I wish Temper had a bigger role here (or maybe an additional story of her/Malaki?).

I found this book so captivating, I read the whole thing in a day. I'm unlikely to re-read the series, I think, but wholly recommend if you like the tropes (fae, fated mates, finding your own power, powerful heroine), like a bit of kink (esp in this book), and like to laugh (lots of pretty contemporary-sounding sass).

Didn't love the HP references (or the GoT ones...), but that is relatively minor. In general, I find that any mentions of companies/websites/books or series tends to age badly. Either you're binding a story to a specific decade, or you run the risk of a reference souring (like HP... and honestly, the GoT one as well, but S8 wasn't out yet when this was written...).

Lots of sex and violence, and I am here for a siren who gets turned on by being a bit sadistic. Good show for trying to make a character a little less likeable with her morally questionable deeds... still love them both, though.

FREAKING FINALLY!

First things first, on the subject of the “grooming” aspect I only have to say this - some took issue with it whereas I didn’t because I was able to compartmentalize the story for what it was…a work of fiction.

I’m a bit conflicted with this one. I really like most of Laura Thalassa’s work.

Her dialogue can be cringey and the repetitiveness is annoying (the number of times Temperance said B*tch was giving me a headache) but it can also be really funny.

The plots she creates are interesting and to an extent I like when authors give their characters a moment to breathe and meander from the main plot to enjoy themselves.

But when I say that I feel this book did not need to be nearly as long as it was I am not kidding.

If half the scenes from the novel would have been cut out I would have enjoyed this so much more.

I kept putting the book down because absolutely NOTHING was happening.

Sure it was cute to see Des and Callie and the steamy scenes were hot and all but it was too much.

I get it! You guys love each other very much and I am so happy for you-now can we go kill the bad guy. PLEASE!

And along with the unnecessary dragging out of the story, was also the drawn out r*pe and enslavement threats against Callie, or the outright mentions of r*pe against men and women. Even the number of times the Siren kept threatening to disembowel someone was excruciating because she never even followed through! Not once.

Again I get it, Big Bad is very bad and we must hate him but he was honestly just an annoying pervert.

I did appreciate the way his sick kink bit him in the ass so spectacularly.

Besides that I’m just happy it’s done and that Callie and Des can have their ever after.

A majority of the book is great. But I found the twist with the Thief to be a little disappointing. I think it would have been better
if he was just some maniacal fairy and not some over powered god

A great series, I am glad I read all of the books. However, I found that this last book dragged longer than needed.

The series definitely went downhill. To begin with, it started with a clear plot that was prevalent and became more complex. In this book it was mostly thrown away. It was 25% plot, 50% erotica, and 25% sexual assault. Not my cup of tea.

I haven't minded the sex throughout the series since I knew this was not a clean romance, but I do not  like reading straight erotica which is what this felt like. For large chunks of the book the mysterious murderer hellbent on killing our main character was all but forgotten in place of some raunchy sex for pages on end. Do we really need this much of it?

For a PI, Callie has never been the sharpest person in the room. It was just so much more this book, though. It took her ages to find something out long after, at least I, was able to figure it out. It wasn't cute and it was incredibly annoying how dense she was. The Thief of Souls would practically tell her the answer to something and yet it still took her half the book to jump to the same conclusion.

*spoilers I guess*

Then the sexual assault. When Callie was not having sex with Des, she was almost raped in her dreams by the Thief of Souls. Every time she slept he stole her dreams to taunt her by graphically explaining all the things he wanted to do to her and how much he loved it when his victims fought back. It was so much of the book and all of it was completely unnecessary.
