Chowder is an eccentric bulldog (whose owners have a few quirks of their own), but like all of us, he wants friends who like him for who he is -- so when he hears of a petting zoo opening at the supermarket, he thinks he may have just found his crowd. Honestly, this book is a delight for the illustrations alone but the message of being true to one's self (and accepting one's own little oddities along with those of others) is sweet and lovely. I imagine anyone who owns a bulldog would love this, but every dog owner who treats their pet like a child will see a bit of themselves in this story. A real treat for dog lovers both young and old.

My 5yo laughs her head off every single time, and it genuinely makes her look forward to reading every night. What more could I ask?

Wasn't taken with Children Make Terrible Pets but Chowder was the greatest read ever. I desperately want a crazy dog who spends time on the computer and looking through a telescope now.

Sweet, little bulldog needs friends, but doesn't really fit in with other dogs.

Adorable! The illustrations have humor without being cloying, and the story has so much heart. I don't know anyone who wouldn't fall in love with Chowder the bulldog.

What a delightfully odd tale of a bulldog named Chowder who doesn't act like any other dogs he knows. Kids of all ages will love this quirky tale and the lesson it teaches about friendship and self-acceptance.
