Liniers, R. (2013). The big wet balloon. New York, NY: TOON Books.
The Big Wet Balloon is a graphic novel for early readers about two sisters having an adventure outside on a rainy day. Matilda tries to teach her little sister Clemmie about how to have fun in the rain, and then must make up for “giving” Clemmie’s balloon to a rainbow. The simple story and illustrations are a good introduction to graphic novels or comics and would be enjoyable to share with young readers.
Written at a 1st or 2nd grade level, this book would make a perfect read aloud to introduce the graphic novel genre to primary students. Its simplicity would make it easy to model how to read graphic novels and would get students interested in the genre. The subject matter of rainy days and family would be good for discussion with Pre-K or Kindergarten students.

A big sister teachers her little sister that everything about Saturday is awesome, even when it's pouring rain. This is a really charming and sometimes funny early reader graphic-novel
It's worth noting that this author is international and has multiple books published in nine other countries like Brazil and the Czech Republic.

Quite cute, and well done comic book with not so many words. I suspect the tenderness of the story will appeal more to the parents of the readers than the readers themselves.

This was very cute, with some real shades of Bluey happening. (Or maybe I've just been binge-watching that and seeing it everywhere. We'll never know!)
It is a book for beginning readers, who I'm sure will appreciate the graphic novel-esque layout and learning about timing, what with silent panels and so on. Very cute.
