I very much enjoyed this book. The audiobook was well read. The ensemble is the best part of this series, I like the characters and how they fit together. I was least invested in Baez's story, sometimes I wanted to get back to the others. I still can't quite see Glokta as a sympathetic figure, the description of his emotions and motivations remains somewhat superficial.

An excellent sequel to ‘The Blade Itself’. Joe Abercrombie continues to flesh out his immense characterisations and hook you in, somehow managing to make you root for them all regardless of moral standing. Pacing was even better than its predecessor, and has me ready to jump into the final book of the trilogy - excited to see where the story takes our characters.

A great read, yet again top quality and a middle book that isn't just filler to get to the final book.
Some fantastic battle scenes and political intrigue and humourous sex scenes.
I cant remember much about the books which is good because they feel fresh and the bits I can remember are great to pick up the subtle foreshadowing.
