My least favorite volume so far (it got a little confusing), but still highly enjoyable!

I'm not a fan of meta in stories I read, and there is a TON of meta here. It was present in the earlier volumes, but not to the point where it interrupted the story and ground things to a complete halt. In issue 14, Fraction writes himself into a corner and is unable to find a way out of it. There are then about 4 pages of him whining to his co-creator about how hard it is to write the scene, and they agree to just skip it. Ultimately, that's what happens. An entire scene is just skipped. A scene in which two female characters have it out together, but it's too much for Fraction. So we'll just skip it, and in the next issue, they will have made up and be friends and it will be really confusing and annoying.

As a woman, I'm not convinced that Fraction writes women very well. I had problems with how his female characters were written in previous issues. This just sealed the deal for me. He can't stand the thought of his female protag being mean to another woman, and he deals with it my just erasing any conflict and magically making them work out their issues off-screen. And that's it, I'm done. No more Sex Criminals for me.

I'm writing this 3 months after I actually read it and can't remember much that happened other than the part that had Chip and Fraction discussing problematic writing, which doesn't say much for the story itself. Maybe it's my age, or maybe it's because nothing much of consequence did happen. At the time I wrote down four stars so I must have enjoyed it, but I've adjusted it to three due to apathy now. I still love that it's sex/body positive, still love that it's all inclusive for genders/sexualities, and still love that there's nothing else like this out there, but it's definitely lost some of its sparkle since the first volume. Hopefully it's just a momentary lull in an otherwise fantastic series. I'll stick with it.

I'm happy I wasn't reading this arc issue to issue, because not a whole lot happens and there was way too much jumping around between characters. Still a fun read, but I'm hoping the plot will come together a bit more in Volume 4.

Still a pretty good read, but not nearly as fun as volume 1 and 2. Really wasn't into the meta stuff at all.

Super fun juvenile humor. Fourth wall breaking. Sexy and interesting story line. A little preachy but compared to the average discourse today regarding sexuality and identity, pretty tame. I recommend if you like dick jokes and seeing comic renditions of pubes. Also, the background art jokes are great.

Definitely not my favorite of the series. There seemed to be a lot of filler in this one and the story didn't really progress all that much. However, this is easily still one of the most entertaining and bizarre comics I've read.

The story was kinda hard to follow, as there are a lot of jumps.
And a LOT of meta. I usually like it, but not when the authors tell me that they are too lazy to write the scene because of reasons. There are most likely better ways to do this people.
But all in all the story stays the same, wierd and a lot of sex jokes, and well, we are all here for the same thing so...
