Once again, the fourth book in the Drake Chronicles series' main selling point is how fun it is to read. It's packed with action, fluffy romance and a supernatural world with twists and turns. Christabel was a nice addition especially since her character was particularly relatable. However, I did find her and Connor's relationship to be rushed and developed less organically when compared to the other romances from earlier on in the series. Would recommend for anyone looking for a fun and easy read.

In this novel we get to read about Conner Drake. He is the computer and all around tech brother of the group. I will admit that I wasn't too thrilled to step back into the Drake Chronicles since my favorite brother is now taken. I was a huge Logan fan and wasn't really into Conner in the other books. Even though it isn't the sexy Logan this time, I still sat down and finished this book in one day.

We also get to me Lucy's cousin, Christabel. She is opposite to Lucy in the fact that she would rather be sitting down reading instead of out socializing with friends. Give her a copy of Pride and Prejudice and she is a happy camper. When a different breed of Hel-Blar kidnap Christabel instead of Lucy by mistake, the Drake's set out in search of her and have choices to make with the Na-Foir.

While I love the writing style of Alyxandra Harvey and her world revolving around the Drake family, I just couldn't get into this book as much as I did with the previous ones. I never could feel the spark between Conner and Christabel. The writer doesn't disappoint though on action considering the first few pages of the book jump directly into it!

While this wasn't my favorite of the series, this series still has plenty of potential. The writing is still great and getting better with each one along with the fact that she is including many of the characters from previous books. The author also does a wonderful job of explaining things without going overboard in case a reader happens to read them out of order.

It seemed a bit unrealistic that Christabel was suddenly okay with being turned into a vampire... I felt like Alyxandra was creating a series where at least one main character represented a different species... (human, vampire, hunter...)

Bleeding Hearts starts a few months after Out for Blood, in which the blood moon is fast approaching, Lucy is feeling isolated and abandoned by the Drakes and Lucy’s cousin Christabel is coming to town

I really liked finding out more about the Hel-Blar and how there society works. I also liked how Lucy is back as a main character and how the past two books has affected as a person.

My favourite character in this book is Connor as I totally get his sense of humour and we like similar stuff as him, as in I get the Firefly and Star Wars references and I read fantasy books because the good guys always win like him.

However I did not connect with Christabel as while we both like reading, I felt all of her characteristics were not realistic and were only there to create obstacles. I also felt no spark between Connor and Christabel as it did not seem they would like each other that way in real life and this was disappointing as this was the relationship I was looking forward to, however Nicholas and Lucy’s relationship made up for it.

This book felt a bit like a middle book and end on a cliff-hanger which will make you itch to pick up Blood Moon straight away. I would recommend this book to all who liked the rest of Harvey’s books.

Bleeding Hearts is narrated by Lucy, Connor and Lucy's snotty cousin Christabel, who has come to stay with her. I was really happy to see Lucy telling part of the story again as she is my favourite character in the series!

Lucy, her parents and the Drake family are aware that they will be keeping a lot of secrets from Christabel when she arrives in town. The best that they can do is to tell their guest that there is a night curfew because of a serious gang problem in town, which Christabel does not believe for a minute. She's smart enough to know that there is some big secret that is not being shared with her. When she does finally discover the truth, her world is going to change in many ways.

I didn't like Christabel in the beginning. She seemed to think that she was smarter and superior to everyone around her, and I did not like her snotty attitude or the way she thought that rules were for everyone except her. Her comments about hick towns and the way she looks down on everybody made me want to scream. I'm not really sure what Connor saw in her. Frankly her one saving grace is that she liked books, even if I didn't like the ones she liked to read! Thankfully, her attitude does change as the book progresses or I would not have enjoyed it much. Solange is the other one that I'm getting tired of. She is being a brat and a bitch to everyone who cares about her, especially Lucy and Kieran and she needs a slap on the butt to set her straight.

The Drake family certainly have their problems at the moment. I don't think they have really done enough to work out what is wrong with Solange and solve it. In the last book, she expressed fears about the change having gone wrong in her but everyone kept fobbing her off and didn't seem interested in doing something to help her. THat denial has allowed things to get out of control, as we see by the actions of Solange at the end of this book. You'll need to read it for yourself to see what I'm talking about but it was certainly an interesting cliffhanger! Lucy is also facing up to the possibility of losing her best friend, and is feeling in danger with all the vampires running around, forcing her to consider her future.

There are also interesting developments with the Hel-Blar, who have to be one of the most interesting versions of vampires that we have in urban fantasy. They are very scary and very infectious, so you can understand the panic when they get their hands on Christabel, thinking her to be Lucy, so they can negotiate with the Drakes. Yes, because kidnapping someone close to the Drakes is going to put Helena in a really good mood! And that is one Drake that you don't want to get on the wrong side of! However, I found the kidnapping part of the story interesting, and it makes the reader as well as the characters understand that the Hel-Blar are more complex than imagined. I found this a lot more interesting than Solange and her spoiled brat tantrums.

I liked this book despite my misgivings over the new character and the twists that were introduced were fascinating. My one big misgiving is the way Solange has changed and I'm not sure I'm going to like that as the series develops.

It was very good. The ending was very suprising! She left a cliff hanger, which I hate but it makes me anxious for the next book. :)

I absolutely adore this series!

I’ve been in a reading slump and I just knew the Drake boys would help get me out of it and they did.

If you like vampires you will like this series, if you are sooo over vampires you still might like this series. The thing about these novels that make them one of my favorites isn’t because they are about “vampires.” It’s because of the characters in this novel and the story. Sure they may be a vampire by character trait, but just try not to be charmed by the Drake brothers and their baby sister Solange. Try not to be impressed by Lucy and her witty remarks and stubborn nature. I just know that other people will love these characters as much as I do.

I also love the story! The main plot arc just keeps getting better and better. I feel as though this novel is prominently character driven, yet the story still hypnotizes me every time too!

I was thrilled that we still got plenty of Nicholas and Lucy in this one, even though this was Christabel & Connor’s story. Lucy and Nicholas are my favorite, though Christabel is pretty awesome, I mean the girl loves to read! How can I not automatically love her?

My only complaint about this novel, was Solange. What the heck happened to her? She was so not the character that I’ve enjoyed in the previous novels and am really excited to see where that is going!

Can’t wait for me!

I just have one word to say : Christabel !!
It's almost as if the author had been inspired by me to create her ><
I love her red hair, her references (Labyrinth =)), her quotes of long dead English poets, her humor so like Lucy's, her relationship with Connor ... Anyway I totally love her =)
Only one downside:Solange. I liked her vampire princess but still normal side , but now I find just her crybaby !!

Book Title: Bleeding Hearts
Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Genre: YA, Romance, Fantasy
Date Finished: 10/03/2023
Star Review (1-5): 4
Description: The Drakes and friends will be tested when an infestation of deadly vampires threatens Violet Hill.

Lucy's cousin Christabel has come to live in Violet Hill, and adjusting to the difference between life in a small mountain town and her home in the city is difficult enough. The strict curfew that Lucy's parents enforce is the worst part. Something really dangerous couldn't possibly happen in this tiny town.
But Christabel has noticed some mysterious happenings, and it seems like Lucy, her boyfriend Nicholas and his brother Connor are all in on a secret that Christabel doesn't understand—one that seems deadly serious. Although she won't admit it, Christabel would love to be in on any secret with Connor Drake. But when she is kidnapped by the ruthless Hel-Blar vampires, Christabel must cause more and more trouble in Violet Hill, Lucy and Connor finally fill Christabel in on all the undead drama. Together, they must find a way to stamp out the Hel-Blar for good.

Review:I really liked both Connor and Christabel. It was a good to have a character like Christabel who had no clue about any of the vamp stuff. Connor is just as brave as his brothers but he is also sweet and geeky, which I love. I like the new vamps they introduced and I liked that they had Christa turn. I was also a fan of lucy finally going to the school, seemed like the logical thing to do considering how often she has been attacked. That ending though, talk about a cliffhanger.
