The Day That A Ran Away is an amusing story about a little boy named Master Jet. Master Jet is an imaginative boy, who has found himself in quite a predicament—his homework is incomplete and it's not his fault. As he explains to his teacher, for one reason or another, the letters have all disappeared from his book, gone off on their merry ways, and he doesn't know when they're coming back!
In a new and clever rendition of the alphabet, Fegan has written a lively rhyming story that will have children giggling in their seats. I know I sure did. The short, two-line rhymes are catchy and fun to recite during a read aloud. They also make it easy to teach children how to identify rhythm and repetition in literature.
Another cute and educational element that is sure to engage young readers is searching through the pictures for the hidden items beginning with each letter.
Wen's charming illustrations match the story perfectly and add a splashy playfulness to the fun-spirited nature of the book. A visual delight, the letters are depicted as monsters, whose expressions and hilarious antics, will have young readers cheering to view and hear the book again and again. This is one book I would enjoy reading to children several times over.
As an early childhood teacher, I would give Master Jet, Fegan, and Wen each an A+ for their skills in successful collaboration, their sense of humor, and their ability to entertain readers. I give it four shiny stars!

Jet hasn't done his homework or has he? When he hands his homework into his teacher and the page is empty he's surprised and has to explain its not his fault the letters won't stay on the page.

This book is a child's book aimed at children aged 3-6years. I think children of this age will love this book, with beautiful illustrations and a funny and interesting story.

A great book to get kids into reading and I cannot wait to read it to my niece and nephew, I know they'll love it.

Thank You to the author for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book from TaleBlade Press in exchange for an honest review.

I've read a few of the other books by Fegan, and if you've been following my reviews at all, you'll know that I love these books. And this one is definitely no exception. It's a lot of fun to read, the story is well done, and the illustrations, as always, are completely gorgeous.

Kids love to play with different ways of approaching the alphabet, and I'm sure that this one will be no exception.

The Good Points of The Day That A Ran Away:

The story is super fun, and I loved its simplicity and it's creativity. Fegan always delivers when it comes to these books, and he writes such great stories for kids to enjoy. Kids will definitely love Jet and all of the shenanigans that his letters get into.

The illustrations in this book are so much fun and so well done. Wen has got a really cool style for his art, and it really brings the story to life.

The writing in this is so much fun. There were a few rhymes that didn't work for me, but overall, it's so well done, and it comes across as so natural. It's fun to read aloud.

The Downsides of The Day That A Ran Away:

There were a few points where the rhymes were a bit weird and that they sounded strange to me. It's entirely possible that it was just me, but the couple of them just felt funny and distracted me from the story.

All in all, this is yet another brilliant story from Fegan, and another one that kids are going to love. If you have children, enjoy your letters, like creative kids stories, or just like reading in general, you should definitely check out The Day That A Ran Away.

The Day that A Ran Away by B.C.R. Fegan and illustrated by Lenny Wen is a children’s book about a little boy in school explaining why he has not written his alphabet down. The story goes through each letter in the alphabet. We see the little boy’s imagination as each letter is off on their adventure doing their own thing rather than lining up in a row. The short children’s book provides colorful illustrations with unique takes on what each letter looks like as it is brought to life. The letters paired with rhymes make a fun and whimsical read.

Another great book brought to us by B. C. R. Fegan and Lenny Wen! It is another endearing journey only this time in school with a little boy and the alphabet. It is an adorable rhyme, reminiscent of Dr. Seuss. Rhymes help children with learning, with sounds and rhythm, but it also provides a fun way of learning. The book provides an educational, fun way to learn about the alphabet. The illustrations are well-done, beautiful, and bring the alphabet alive.

The book is great for young children who are learning the alphabet. Teachers can even use it as an aid to create lessons. Each letter is illustrated in a way that associates itself with the letter it is. For instance, the K is dressed like a king or the F has a flower. After reading the book, teachers could focus on each letter, and create various lesson plans. The pictures are also engaging for children due to their bright colors and charming quality.

I greatly enjoy The Day that A Ran Away and think others will too. I would recommend this book to anyone with young children who are learning the alphabet. I would also recommend this to teachers who are teaching young children. Even as an adult, I enjoyed the little book. Besides the rhymes, were the letters. I liked that J “stepped off the page” and the letter T was the cutest!

When a young boy named Jet is asked by his teacher where his alphabet homework is, he comes up with an elaborate excuse, told in rhyme. Each letter of the alphabet gets its own page about why or how it has gone its own way, leaving him with no homework. Does the teacher buy Jet's excuse? No, she tells the letters must pay for their crime and that they will all be back after he writes the alphabet 20 times. The fourth grader teacher in me kind of found this story amusing, although I thought the punishment a little harsh for a child just learning to write the alphabet. My young readers, of course, thought the punishment was way over the top, even though they liked the overall story. The bright bold illustrations are big and busy, but if you look closely, on each page there are items that begin with the particular letter of the alphabet being talked about. Having heard all kinds of excuses as to why homework wasn't turned in, I have to admit this would have been the most clever.
