Another cute new kid's picture book for 2014, this one tells the tale of how Old MacDonald came to be a farmer in the first place. The story rhymes and tells of how Old MacDonald was just a guy with a house...and a lawn that he was tired of mowing. The tale includes the word "poo", which was a big hit with my 4 year old. My son did comment on the illustrations though that he thought that Old MacDonald didn't look human.

So this is how Old MacDonald became a farmer!
Kids who've heard their grownups complain about mowing the lawn might offer this book up as a suggestion. Even if parents don't want to turn their backyards into a farm, this will get kids thinking about "so this is how you start."
Well done.

What a cute book!!! My 3-year-old loved it and made us read it twice in one sitting. Each time, we spotted new things. He has a speech delay, but he would point and talk and get all excited! Great read aloud book!

A different take on Old MacDonald's farm - it's now a modern day organic farm! One smart little red hen helps Farmer MacDonald turn his backyard into a compost based organic farm. Cute rhyming story that will keep young readers attention. Good mentor text for sequencing.

Hilarious tale of how one red hen helped Old MacDonald turn his yard around his house into an organic farm. This is a book that begs the reader to slow down and really look at all the little elements of the illustrations, which add humor and depth to the story.

Cute and educational for kids, still keeps a bit of the original rhyme and all of the feel!

I think this was supposed to be a clever take on Old MacDonald but honestly it didn't do much for me.
