I didn't finish this book. The way it is written makes it almost two books in one, and when I got to the present day (second book, really) I wasn't interested in anything more than what else happened in the first part. I'm sure it would all be connected sooner or later and I'd get my answers, but the huge cliffhanger and seemingly unconnected next chapter made me completely lose interest.

This was a spontaneous read for me this month since it was not on my TBR list. I recently found out that Jojo Moyes' The Last Letter From Your Lover will be adapted to a movie, and so I wanted to read it again to jog my memory. The first time I read this book was several years ago, not long after I fell in love with Jojo Moyes' Me Before You. I wanted to read more of Jojo's fantastic and heartwarming, sometimes also gut-wrenching, stories and thought this book would be a great start. I remember liking this book back then. However, I believe my opinion might have changed now that I read it for a second time.

The story takes place both in the 1960s and 2003, with several characters (Jennifer Stirling, Laurence Stirling, Anthony O'Hare and Ellie Haworth) who are each so complicated and brilliant. The jump between times are done seamlessly and I was able to follow it easily. This book is compelling, making me unable to put it down, resulting me to finish it in two sittings. I was also captivated by the passionate love story Jojo Moyes has written, one that had me tear up and emotional. It was a beautiful story about long-lasting love and missed chances.
Other than that, reading this book for a second time has led me to a new perspective. I won't go into much details since I don't want to give any spoilers. I thought Jennifer was ahead of her time when she finally made her decision, which spoke of women empowerment. There was also a scene in the book that spells out mansplaining to a T. Both points I would not have realized the first time I read it.

All in all, instead of just liking this book, I think I have fallen in love with it. This is an absolute five-star read for me! I would recommend it to those of you who are a fan of Jojo Moyes' incredible storytelling or loves reading love stories!

I have so much to say about this book. Most of it good. I want to preface this by saying that after reading the second book in the [b:Me Before You|17347634|Me Before You (Me Before You, #1)|Jojo Moyes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1539892546s/17347634.jpg|17763198] series, [b:After You|27774596|After You (Me Before You, #2)|Jojo Moyes|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1539892322s/27774596.jpg|44693518], I was going to give up on JoJo Moyes. But this book seemed like it had a good premise, and I was right, Jojo came through.
Let's start with my dislikes because it's a shorter list:

Dislikes:
Ellie's character was weak and pitiful. I understand that she is supposed to be under the spell of love but having her be older (early 30s) and still mistaking lust for love, doesn't just seem like a flaw in her actions, but an inherent flaw that she needs therapy for.
It reminded me a lot of [b:The Notebook|33648131|The Notebook (The Notebook, #1)|Nicholas Sparks|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1483183484s/33648131.jpg|1498135], which i didn't care for.

Likes:
Literally everything else. This was the one time that I didn't already guess what was going to happen before it did. I mean, it was almost like I was being taken on this ride and it was dark and my body was just being jostled around from the spins and turns. Anthony's character was well rounded and lovable; it was so nice to see a man portrayed to have emotions and not be regarded as weak.
Jennifer's character was so interesting because she had this internal struggle that I think women still face, no matter how much time has passed and how modern we are, there will always be a question lingering about whether or not we are to do the "right thing" or the thing that makes us happy.
I loved the fact that I couldn't figure out what was happening next. The formatting was magnificent. I think it did a very good job of pulling me back and forth and making me gasp and shriek in delight and horror.

Overall/ Final thoughts:
I'm glad that I gave her another chance because I was not disappointed. However, I'm not going to give it five stars because of the Ellie story line. Her weakness took me out of the action and had me feeling like I needed to skip pages.

A wonderful love story spanning 40 years. A little mystery in modern times to find the author and recipient of love letters. It lost some pacing in the middle when it switched to the modern times for me. Nice story, was worth the read.
