The Novice’s Demon is a short story and took me about half an hour to read. Perfect when you just want something quick to read.

The story flicks between Breage, a young novice who has become a shadow of her former self and letters between Father Joseph and Mother Prioress who are concerned for her well being.

Poor Breage really is having a hard time of it. She is only eighteen and has set her sights on living the rest of her life as a nun. Due to unwelcome visits in her dreams, she is becoming withdrawn and causing concern for the people around her.

The Novice’s Demon is a mix of horror and suspense. The reader to a certain extent is as confused as the people concerned about Breage. I didn’t know what to believe, was it Breage’s imagination or something beyond our beliefs? It’s up to each reader to decide that for themselves.

Overall a good little read and would certainly read more by the author with this being my first book by them.
