My favorite thing about the middle grade novels set in the High Republic is that these authors don't hold back on having the characters face a lot of difficult situations. Quest for the Hidden City lives up to this and does such a good job of showing problem solving, facing fears, and looking for the good in others. I loved learning about the Katikoots, a cool bat-like species that live on the twin planets Aubadas & Gloam. And getting to see how the Jedi's worked with pathfinder teams to help find hyperspace routes. This book introduced a lot of the outer rim and even has the characters being on Batuu for a while, which I always love to see. I'm excited to see what the next middle grade book in Phase 2 brings to the story!

I really enjoyed this junior novel of The High Republic era. I particularly liked the discussions of whether the Jedi should be the sword versus the shield because I love when a story can be great on its own within the specific book, but can also transcend that book and make a difference in the greater canonical conversation!

It’s my understanding that this book takes place at the same time as Convergence, so I’m looking forward to reading that next and seeing the same time from a different perspective!
