This was amazing!! Hard to imagine a future like this but all it takes is someone exploiting power and others shying away from their necessary actions against that group. Silence can be our worst enemy. I wish I had noted the relevance of the image at the beginning of the different sections earlier. That really helped with keeping the characters straight!!

I was hesitant to read this because The Handmaids Tale was just so good that I didn’t want to be disappointed, but these books are very different from one another. It is not a duloagy, but rather two (almost) stand-alone books. The Testaments was written more plainly and wasn’t necessarily the style of book I usually read. I wasn’t super into this book, so I frequently got tripped up with the dual-perspectives but I did enjoy the inside and outside perspectives from each of the characters. It was pretty cliche, but it was still entertaining. I do think the ending was kind of rushed though.

A masterpiece of a dystopian novel. Gorgeous plot, pacing, and character development. When I was not reading it, I was thinking about it! And, the audiobook is also very well done.

An Atwood thriller. That’s how I felt reading it. I simultaneously enjoyed it and felt disappointed by it; it felt somewhat hastily done. It didn’t have the same sense of reality as the Handmaid’s Tale did. So much of the plot seemed contrived and obvious, which is difficult to accept from a writer like Atwood who is usually so assured and precise when creating worlds you believe in. This Gilead and the one in the Handmaid’s Tale didn’t line up.

I won’t go into more detail since it’s still a very new book.
Mostly it’s whetted my appetite for the original.
