I’m so torn on how to rate this. I loved the end, but the rest of it felt like trudging. I wish it’d been shorter, like the first books in ACOTAR and TOG. It felt like the books in those series once you care about the characters, but before you do so. I’m also admittedly not a big fantasy fan, although ACOTAR led me into the fantasy world, and struggle with world building. Overall, I liked the book, but for once with a Sarah J Maas book I’m not rushing to the sequel.

What the f#&k did I just READ. I enjoyed this book so much!!!!!!! The beginning was not hard for me to follow at all, the Danika and Pack of Devils incident had me so upset so early on. I loved Bryce and Hunts relationship and how their storyline developed. Ruhn is such an underrated character and I HOPE him and Queen Hypaxia have babies. The ending GAGGED ME, so many plot twists. RIP LEHABAH

I actually had to go into this book the 2nd time. The 1st time I had to put this book down and I struggled to read it. I was bout to shelf it and about to DNF. It was long and I felt that the beginning was so long and wasn’t going anywhere.

It took a year before I even tried to read it again. I reread ACOTAR and told myself that I needed to go into CC with an open mind and try to push through several chapters. I did do just that, and I am glad that I did.

Eventually, I ended up finishing the entire book and actually enjoying it. I didn’t think I wasn’t going to enjoy it because it was completely different from the typical kinds of fae that we are used to from Ms. Maas’s stories. However, once you read through the story it all starts to click and make sense.

I’m not sure if all the stories are supposed to link to each other. I hear that they will, but who knows. If they do, I am excited to see how they will all tie into each other.

Honestly, I had a hard time with this book in the beginning. It definitely wasn’t a stop and go. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it! But I had to go back every time I paused. Still, she did it again! Had me goin with every little twist (and BIG twist)! I can’t wait for the next.
There were a few emotionally drawn out parts that could definitely have been clipped down. And things that were repeated for dramatic effect. That’s my only complaint about any of her books.
I’m the chick that everyone gets mad at because I can always guess who did what with the candlestick in the kitchen blah blah... but she surprised me with this one.
I know this review was all over the place but it’s wee morning hours and I have no regerts....

This was a fun book. It had interesting worldbuilding, memorable characters, and a good core hook.

I'd hardly call it perfect, especially in regards to Bryce. She ends up feeling like a Tumblr OC from 2014 by the end, but there is a certain charm in it. Also, the middle dragged on way too long.

Recommendable? Yes! Definitely.

This book a had a slow start. The first 100 or so pages are world building. After that it was full of twists and turns that I did not see coming. It’s also a slow burn and that kinda drove me crazy. The last few chapters were face paced and filled with so much action. I’m starting Sky and Breath today.
