So so good. Maybe I thought it was so good because I relate to it in some ways, but this book breaks your heart and mends it back together again. Readers will fall in love with Rhys

This book helped me get through my 2 month reading slump. It's easily one of my favorite romances of all time and the best book I've read this year. It's a debut? Aside from the amazing characters, the book is simply amazing. It's well paced for me and while the romance is the main plot, there are other interesting plot points that I enjoy as well. The writing (which often makes or breaks a book) is also amazing. Even though it took me a long time to finish due to my slump, there wasn't a moment when I wasn't interested and engaged. The most amazing thing about this book for me was the way the characters were portrayed in terms of mental health. The way that the author, Peyton Corinne, addressed and described their trauma and the mental health issues they were dealing with was really validating. I've read books before that felt like healing in itself and unsteady was definitely one of them.

4.5/5 stars ⭐️ . Unsteady by Peyton Corinne swept me off my feet and took me by surprise. I usually shy away from Sports romance (the only other sports romance I’ve read is about a made up sport, All for the Game if you know you know), but oh my god this was amazing! Unsteady follows figure skater Sadie and hockey player Rhys as they enter a unique fwb situation while both grappling with mental health issues and their real feelings for each other. I loved Unsteady because it highlighted mental health in both men and women, and Peyton Corinne didn’t romanticize mental health issues in a toxic way some other romance authors have. The mental health issues are a real and messy depiction of what PTSD and anxiety actually look like. I also really loved that neither character used the other as a crutch for their mental health or that a love interest wasn’t their sole motivator for getting better which is a toxic thing I see a lot in other romance novels that depict mental health issues. I really loved all the characters in this book and hope that Peyton Corinne returns to Waterfell so I can read about the other character (I would die for a Bennet book.) TW: PTSD, alcoholism, parental abuse, abuse from a coach, and parental abandonment

What I enjoyed: I liked the growth you see between Sadie and Rhys, the friendships that are already built and those that form because of their relationship, and Rhys's steadfast love for Sadie.

What I didn't enjoy: A couple of things - it's medium-paced in the writing, but the romance was slow burn, and for me, it dragged for a bit. Some scenes would have really shown Sadie and Rhys relationship and how it built that were only short mentions and not really fleshed out so it takes a while to get why they like each other. The other thing was that there are sub plots that are mentioned that in hindsight, have a lot to do with why Sadie is the way she is, but it doesn't really flesh out completely and by the time it does, it's kinda just...wraps up.

Overall: I enjoyed it, and I'm definitely curious about the other couples that get set up in this book.

Third act breakup?
No.

Open Door Romance -
It's fairly low spice and has its moments, but it is tame compared to nother book I've read.
