I still wanted to slap Katie at times ; Don't trust a werewolf ; A Lot of Mythos are ungrateful little shits!

I enjoyed it.
The plot was still weak ; the world building still the best thing. I liked the mcs and their relationship ; they finally had regular sex —even if the sex scenes were just ok. I also wanted to slap Katie, Jordan’s sister, most of the time and most of the mythos are ungrateful b!tches

I'm entirely too intrigued by this series. Can tell things are about to more or less implode and, honestly, I can't wait!

In Book 3 of the Mytho series, all hell lets loose and everything prophesied (that we know of) has come to pass. Everything from here on is all part of the mystery, the wild ride, and the uncertainty of a life as a mated Mytho/human pair, for Jordan and Edra.

Jordan's sister appears. Werewolves are vehemently against their mating. Ezra has been attacked. Nymphs want...a new nymph. The rookery get involved. Nymphs are way more vindictive than I thought. Carly is a bigger B.I.T.C.H. than I expected. And...somehow, the story is still jam-packed with action/adventure, and yet manages to be sweet, romantic, and bittersweet all at once.
There is a truck load of stuff going on in Jordan and Edra's lives, but it never feels overwhelming. To them, yes. To the reader, no. Everything is linked, connected, and it's up to those two to join the dots and drag us along for the crazy ride.

Jordan is as brilliant as ever. Clever, great at his job, a sucky big brother but trying his best, and scared about the future like any other human would be. He makes bad choices. He makes rash decisions. But, he's man enough to own up to it, in the end, and figure his shit out.
Edra is...far more wounded, in this story. For me, this is where his vulnerable inner dragon really comes out. He feels so many things – danger, betrayal, concern for his mate, fear for the future – but he keeps it all bottled up and still manages to be the strong Knight not everyone appreciates.

The world-building is just... *chef's kiss* I always knew it would be. I didn't get through the three amazing books of Nichols' Studies in Demonology without knowing their expert ability to craft a complex world with ease. But, seeing old characters resurface in small, seemingly inconsequential ways, the way you'd see someone you knew walking down the street and given them a nod...how characters pop in and out, important or not, and leave a mark somehow...while blending seamlessly into this world of growing numbers, where new characters have the opportunity to pop up with every new crime scene...is just part of the genius.

Yet, through all this, Jordan and Edra are still learning about each other. They're still discovering secrets, pushing boundaries, learning the ropes of what it's like to be together as a couple, mated and living together. Trying to juggle work life with personal life, outside forces pushing and manipulating them at every turn. Nichols never forgets about their previous struggles – Bliss, the satyrs, the baby dragons – or all they've encountered together. Those are still valid, important and relevant to their story, and no matter how small, the past is always lingering.

I can't say too much about the plot, because there are A LOT of things I'd like to mention that will be way more exciting if you come by it naturally, while reading. But, let's just say that Nichols' kept their word and we're off to LA for Book 4!

Favourite Quote

“People who feel betrayed lash out.” Edra dumped the plates and cups into what would be scalding water.
Jordan ran his finger over one of the thick gray scars on Edra’s back. “Are you talking teenage girls or werewolves?”
“I’m not sure there’s much difference.” He passed a plate to Jordan to dry. “Both bite.””

““For the moment, we carry on as though we don’t care about her games. Anything done now will reek of revenge.”
Edra grimaced.
“I know you’d like to feed her to the mermaids—”
“That was option five.”
“But sometimes it’s better to wait.”

I still wanted to slap Katie at times ; Don't trust a werewolf ; A Lot of Mythos are ungrateful little shits and Edra is honestly too precious for them. My petty ass would have quit and watched the world burn 🤣.

*4.5*
This is a series to be read in order due to a developing relationship and a series plot arc.
Envy and Other Cravings finds Jordan and Edra dealing with life as a newly mated couple whilst still keeping it secret. Except, it's not. Not from the majority of the mytho community at least with werewolves who can scent it and others who can sense their bond. Edra is ok with this but Jordan worries about his job and how things will be perceived by humans. He also has some family drama to deal with whilst they are working on a new homicide case of a nymph being burned in their Grove. Edra, meanwhile, has Knight duties to contend with, a backstabbing coworker and a possible trip to LA in his future.
A lot goes on here that strains the relationship that the couple are building. I love how much closer they have gotten and how far they've come since first meeting. Edra is more open when it comes to what he has to do in his Knight/Mytho Liaison role but he still wants to keep Jordan safe. Jordan is getting better at trusting what Edra needs to do and why but he still struggles with the confidence to show their relationship in public where humans will see.
Several events through the book force their hand, pushing them individually and together, and you can feel them being pulled apart whilst also showing their strength as a mated couple. I find it really interesting meeting new supernatural beings in each book as well as reuniting with characters that we've met before. The nymphs are definitely an unusual group and do things slightly differently but it just brings another level to the story and ups the ante when it comes to the human/Mytho relations and a huge underlying scheme that they're just scratching the surface of. What comes next will be huge for the couple and Mytho community in San Fransisco.
Another great book this series and I am very intrigued as to how things will progress next in several areas, not just between Jordan and Edra. We're left on quite the cliff and things are about to get even more interesting.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
