Jacky left her human family behind once she was changed into a werecat, but when her twin sister comes looking for help she doesn't hesitate. The Russian werewolf pack wants something that Jacky's sister has, and when they kidnap her human family she knows she has no other option than getting them back even if it could start a war.

I liked this book slightly less than the other in the series, not because the writing or the story was bad, but just because Jacky's human family is awful. It made me hurt for her. Nonetheless I'm glad she was able to say her goodbyes and be done with them.

Great read

Wonderful writing! Loved Jacky and Heath and the were cats! Hated Jacky’s birth parents. They were complete butt heads. Can't wait for the next book!

Once the plot started, I literally couldn't stop reading and sped through the book. Jacky Leon books are like potato chips. They're so addictive. Once again, Jacky deals with another one of her families and finds closure and moves on. It's very nice to see her grow into herself. I really love Banet's strong characterization and tension filled plot and action scenes in her Tribunal series.

Trigger Warning: Spoiler Alert!!!!!!

Rape, domestic violence, dubious consent/sex trafficking, postpartum depression, divorce, cheating, abuse and torture discussed, but not seen. Violence, death, and murder.

That ending! Finally! I absolutely love the growth, acceptance and "closure" Jacky finally had. I see incredible changes in the future for Jacky, Heath and possibly (most likely if I am correct) the entire supernatural world. So much happened and I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but can say that it causes a wide range of feelings.

Favorite lines/scenes -

"It's yours, too," she murmured...

I wish I could talk to you....

"Why? The world is the one who needs to stop being wrong,"....

Finally getting some traction between Jacky and Heath and for 2 such hot blooded people, how could they only have progressed to more kissing in 3 months??? I was not as happy about that but oh well.

This story introduces Jacky's twin sister Gwen, who is caught up in the supernatural world as a doctor. She gets involved, gets Everett (the werecat that has a suspicious history that is not addressed) involved, gets Jacky involved who then gets Heath involved and then the Family is involved and then Mischa- you guessed it- she gets involved.

I have to say, I was surprised at the intensity of the hot/coldness of Mischa but I liked the town and the backstory of her life. It was fast paced and interesting and it was a 4.5 until the ENDING! We finally get some from Heath. I mean Jacky does :) Happy Birthday to her.

5 stars for putting us out of our misery- thank you!!

So. Fucking. Good.

Seriously, I am not ready to be done. Going back to book 1 and starting over. *makes grabby hands*

Re-read Sept 2020 (after immediately re-reading the series)
Man, I just loved it. I love Jacky, Heath, her family. I can't wait to see how things continue.

I'm so hopeful that her family can in fact see what is happening with Heath, so the relationship she's been forging with them for the last 3 books isn't destroyed when it is revealed. I can't help but feel like Hasan - and in this book, it seemed also Hisao - is willing to back Jacky on this, in the hopes that it will be the foundation for a lasting peace.

Also, mad props for making the most powerful Alpha werewolf in the world a woman - Corissa was fucking awesome, and I have a woman crush.

Also, man, you know that bitchy BSA agent with her weird rune of power necklace is going to come up in a bad way. It's interesting that Hasan's family weren't more alarmed by them. I feel like they've gotten a little complacent, being on top for so long. That was underscored in this book when they failed to recognize how dangerous it would be to allow that Russian Alpha to have leverage like that over Jacky. Plus, with what happened in the last book... They need to up their game and start looking outside the box. It's a good thing they have Jacky, that's her speciality.

Re-read Dec 2021 (after book 7)
Man. After book 7, I have serious concerns about
Spoiler that supposedly "nonsense" concealment rune of power the bitchy female BSA agent was wearing on her necklace. We know the witches have at least one person in the BSA - the "Bruce" they were discussing in book 7. It's not a stretch to imagine they have more than one. And Zuri, in this book, says if it was a working concealment rune, it would have masked the witch in Jacky's territory - made her read as human. But, Zuri said, you'd have smelled the magic. But if this modified rune conceals not just her presence but also blocks the scent of magic - exactly what we found out witches were doing in book 7 - then lo and behold, you've got what seems to be a human wearing a broken and nonthreatening rune of power.
Eeeep!

Jacky Leon is my hero. Seriously, I want to be HER when I grow up. As a Werecat, and arguably the biggest, baddest predator in the United States, she is a force to be reckoned with, despite her youth, inexperience and general lack of interest in all things politically paranormal. Fortunately for us, and unfortunately for her, things are changing for Jacky, forcing her to open her eyes and truly face the terrifying world she has found herself in.... and it's one heck of a ride as she does.

You would think the events in the previous three books would have fully slapped Jacky into some semblance of spacial awareness, and they have... almost. In the beginning of book 4 you can tell she is more involved in the supernatural world, trying to accept the familial position she was granted, but she still isn't quite THERE, if that makes sense. By the end though? Jacky Leon is truly growing up, and she is starting to understand what that really means.

From an ancient and brutal Werewolf Pack in Russia to the slow burn temptation that is Heath, this book weaves more threads in this ever growing world. Some answers are given, more questions are asked and families both new and old come into play. It's a delicious, and sometimes dangerous, treat for everyone.... and those last few scenes? *fan squee!*

**I received an ARC of this novel and am THRILLED to share my honest opinion**

The pacing and new characterizations were a mess, as always - Jacky keeps going in circles about trusting her family, and the plot makes everything that Jacky is doing The Worst Ever until the author decrees it's time for it to turn into The Best And Most Successful Important Thing Ever, which is incredibly annoying. It strips any tension out of the earlier portions of the plot, because we know it's going to resolve in the most anodyne, successful way possible, without much ambiguity or complication. Also,
SpoilerGwen is pretty awful, in part because she seemed both obnoxious and ill-informed, but also not very bright; and I'm more than a little surprised that she made the decision to violate her medical oaths by murdering a patient when I'm sure she was treating some really terrible patients throughout her time at the medical center. I also have very mixed feelings about the way the plot punished her for being ambitious and good at her job - she sacrificed her relationship with her husband and her children for her job, then threw it all over to get rid of one specific patient? And the setup for the medical center seems ridiculous also - if so many employees colluded to murder a patient then how could it be a functional hospital given the type of patients it gets? It all just felt very plot device-y, Banet had clearly not thought about how hospitals work or how doctors think at all.

Read all of the books in 1 and a half days.

My new favourite series. Please let there be more. Not ready for this to end soon. Probably should have reviewed the books as I went on but couldn't stop reading didn't even notice no book 5 yet was ready to read that today too.
