This is the story of Adeline “Addie” LaRou who hat starts in 1714 after Addie makes and poorly thought out “deal” with the Dark. This deal makes her immortal, but makes her forgotten as soon as she is out of their sight. We follow her through her long life and numerous adventures and the demoralizing struggles of an invisible life where she cannot form any meaningful or lasting relationships or impression on the world.
I enjoyed this book, the writing is stunning the story wasn’t quite that. The writing made you feel like you are in the story, the descriptions are poetic and the emotions of the story are truly felt while reading. I loved the concept and premise of the story, but the execution of said story lacked. The beginning really held my attention but the middle slowed quite a bit and just became stagnant and honestly made it hard to continue. The beginning and end kept me engaged and I couldn’t put it down during those times. Really liked the two love stories in the book and just how different they were her story with Luc felt more believable to me that her romance with Henry. It just didn’t feel as believable with Henry, her story with Luc felt inevitable and magnetic. Her relationship with Henry felt more protective, but I did like the parallels between the two relationships. Luc loves Addie cause she’s the only person who knows him, and Addie loves Henry cause he’s the only person who can know her. I liked the ending and how Addie stayed true to herself and was defiant even till the end.

Just drags. Moves slow and I need it to progress faster. Ended up reading the plot online with a spoiler and determined this was enough for me to read.

Really interesting set-up and a great ending. My only issue is that I just couldn't really care about the main character all that much.

This book for me was just ok. The first half of the book is very slow paced as it’s going through the main characters past. The second half was better but as a whole the book was just ok. A one time read for me.
