This book is perfect if you want a quick, cosy/spooky read with a cute slow-burn romance.

Lucky is a fun, unique character with ESP abilities. She gets a new job as a caretaker of the “haunted” Hennessee house, working with a tv production team who are trying to undercover the mysteries behind the houses paranormal activity. While uncovering more about the house and herself, she also gets to know more about the team. Her main focus though lands on the actor Maverick and his sweet, adventurous daughter Rebel. As she starts to fall for Maverick she starts to wonder if discovering more about the paranormal and building her career is the only thing she wants by the end of this mystery….

I’m a huge fan of paranormal stories and I love how Claire Kann added the element of romance in with the story to make this a heartfelt, cosy read. The characters were easily likeable and it was sweet to see how their relationships with Lucky developed over time. I especially enjoyed reding about Lucky’s relationship with Mavericks daughter, Rebel. Rebel was brave, adventurous and like her name, very rebellious when it came to following the rules. This fit perfectly with Lucky’s character as she was not one to follow the rules either and their relationship was sweet and heartwarming to witness.

The relationship between Maverick and Lucky was slow-paced and very heartwarming to read about, Their communication was full of understanding and patience and they both worked really well together! However, sometimes I would get a little lost in the conversations they would have and would need to reread a few times to understand what was happening. This made me lose interest at times but I still enjoyed all other parts of the book.

As for Hennessee house, the secrets and mystery were really fun to explore and there was times when I was really creeped out by the house!! The haunted concept was really intriguing and was the main focus for me and the most enjoyable parts were when Lucky was using her ability and exploring the house.

Overall this was a cute, spooky read which I would definitely recommend if you want a paranormal story with a romantic element to it!!

This was a fun, cute and fast read :)

It is the perfect book for in between books and a palate cleanser between genres for me.

The setting was fun and not something we see all the time and I enjoyed it, but I also like hunted houses and such, so it was a treat for me,

The characters were likable, but for me sometimes hard to connect with.

Overall, I thought it was alright, I liked it but didn't love it.

I give it 3 stars.

I love love love paranormal stories, and I haven’t read many paranormal romances specifically but I am very excited about the idea of combining two of my favourite genres together. This was soft, cosy and heartwarming. I really enjoyed it!

I also loved the unexpected asexual representation. It read as a great introduction for people who aren’t familiar with asexuality and it offers a lot of information, at least on Lucky’s personal relationship with asexuality and how it affects her partnership with Maverick.

As for the relationship between Maverick and Lucky, it was slow burn (my favourite) and realistic. I liked that we got to follow them as they developed and worked out the kinks in how their relationship is going to work. I enjoy when good communication is displayed. They had a LOT of conversation, discussing all kinds of things, and I loved that Maverick never forgot to keep putting his daughter Rebel first.

The ‘haunted’ house (read it to find out more!) was really fun and at times heartbreaking too. It added a fun twist to the story.

It had a bit of a slow start, I had a difficult time getting into it at first, but after around the 40% mark I started to get into it a lot more and really enjoyed it after that. For people who love a bit of a build up, this is for you.

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for the eArc, I loved it!

This book mixed a fun premise, fun characters, and an eerie but entertaining setting, resulting in a romantic comedy that feels wholly unique.

I adored Lucky as a main character. Her confidence and her snark had me hooked immediately on the story. She remains undaunted by Hennessee House from the beginning, and I loved her determination in getting to the bottom of the house's secrets. I also really enjoyed reading her perspective and her experiences with ESP. I haven't really read many characters with that ability before, and I liked discovering her reasons for wanting to enter the house. As a whole, she felt like a distinct, original character, which I really appreciated.

Maverick, on the other hand, had me charmed from his first phone call with Lucky. I don't think I've ever fallen for a love interest that quickly, but Kann wrote his banter with Lucky so well, I was dying for more and more interactions with the pair the more I read. I really loved him as a character, from his dedication to his daughter to the way he strives to make Lucky feel welcome within his family. He was such a sweetheart, and I am utterly obsessed with him.

The supporting characters were all wonderful, but Rebel was undoubtedly the MVP for me. I am absolutely obsessed with her, she was so cute but also so blunt and precocious, and I loved how everyone on the crew was determined to help her pursue her dreams.

The setting of Hennessee House was very interesting to read. Kann did a great job of balancing the eeriness of the house while also maintaining the light-heartedness of a romantic comedy. I don't know how she was able to make this story, and its setting, both creepy and cute, but she was able to walk that line in a really effective way.

The only thing I struggled with a bit was the pacing. There were times where the story felt like it dragged a little bit, while at the same time it felt like Lucky and Maverick's connection developed too quickly into the romantic. Their relationship is definitely slow burn, but I would have liked a few more scenes of them getting to know each other before they address the fact that there seems to be some sort of connection that could be explored.

That being said, this book was still very entertaining to read. It was unlike any other romantic comedy I've read, filled with so many wonderful characters (yes that includes the house) and is one I would highly recommend checking out.

Thank you Berkley Romance for the free book and PRH Audio for the complimentary audiobook. These opinions are my own.

Lucky Hart is a woman who has long had a supernatural ability to read people's true character by meeting their eyes during a first impression. She hopes to pursue a career investigating the supernatural, so she applies for a reality TV show in which she will live in a sentient, haunted house for 30 days.

This was so fascinating with a very unique supernatural premise. I quite liked the mix of characters for the TV production company. They sometimes acts as a found family but with lots of secrets. And I especially appreciated Rebel, a wonderful child who brought joy and hope to tense aspects of the story.  Of course, I was personally quite pleased to see Lucky's portray on the ace spectrum incredibly well done without making it the main or only point of her character.

The romance between Lucky and Maverick took second billing for me. I was far more intrigued by the house and mystery. While I quite enjoyed both characters individually, I didn't get much from their chemistry together.

Zenzi Williams was an excellent narrator, and I felt she embodied Lucky quite well. The audiobook was just over 11 hours long.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing for this fantastic ARC in exchange for an honest review. When I first saw this ARC, everything about it immediately caught my eye and I just had to get my hands on it. Lucky is all things charismatic, intelligent, and flirty with very unique abilities (ESP). It was really interesting to see how Lucky’s abilities worked along the way with her investigations of the house and people. I loved how different this was in terms of paranormal and romance meshed together. It felt well balanced and everything made sense where I felt like it could happen even in the real world. I enjoyed the concept of the haunted house and appreciated that not every haunted thing is necessarily bad, it can be almost human-like with feelings.

Maverick and Lucky’s romance was also very sweet and though there is a lot of slow burn chemistry between the two, I appreciated that the author explained Lucky being asexual and how her personal thoughts and feelings came into play in the relationship because of it. I think it’s a great introduction to those who don’t know as much about the asexual community and how every experience is different. Her relationship with Rebel, Maverick’s daughter, is also gold. I loved seeing Rebel’s admiration for Lucky blossom and how well the two worked together. All characters had heartwarming relationships that were of true understanding and support. Thank you again to NetGalley and Claire Kann for this wonderful arc. Keep your eyes peeled for May 21st when this lovely book comes out!

Many thanks to PRH International for the digital review copy.

I love stories about haunted houses, but I'm also a huge scaredy cat, which you'll be able to tell doesn't typically match well. But a romance novel set in haunted house? That pretty much has my name on it!

I had so much fun reading this, because it was just the right amounts of cosy and creepy. I did think the haunted (or rather, sentient) house was creepy at times, and it made for a very mysterious setting that I couldn't wait to find out more about. But the cast of characters, not even just the romance, but the entire film crew, made everything feel so warm and loving. Lucky is someone who's been very closed off to other people for a long time, and it was amazing to see these people worming their way into her heart, and Maverick making her realize she deserves to open herself up for love. Maverick is a single dad who has a 10-year-old daughter, and Rebel was an actual fleshed out character in the book, which was so lovely to read.
