June has survived what no mother should face. Twelve years ago, her husband and five year old young daughter were murdered by a mentally-challanged carpenter employed in their house. For the sake of her unborn daughter, she managed to battle with her inner demon every single day.
But now she faces losing the second daughter because of heart defect, unless they find a donor for Claire real soon. When a match is offered, it seems like a miracle. Until June learns that the new heart will come from murderer of her husband and daughter. She thought she would do anything to keep Claire alive. But now how will she give Claire heart of murderer of her sister. Everyday when June will look into Claire's eyes will she able to survive that hate and agony of 11 years.?!
True to its form Picoult keeps you guessing till the end in this morality tale. It is challenging and clever read, with some perils of self-righteosness along the way. Although some loopholes caught my attention.

Multiple POVs; thought-provoking and emotional; a mix of My Sister’s Keeper and The Green Mile; didn’t hold my interest well- probably because I'm not interested in religion and that was such a large part of this book; I did enjoy the main plot twist but it felt brushed over almost- I wish it had more of an impact; never a fan of the unnecessary romantic subplot

I really liked this book. The story was interesting and Picoult certainly does her homework. It's so smart and believable but in such an unbelievable way! You find yourself loving even the villains.

Maybe I wasn't in the mood....maybe I didn't like the portrayal of religion...maybe I didn't like the ending...but whatever the reason, I didn't feel this was up to Jodi Picoult's usual excellent standards.

Interesting, but it seemed to me like the same story as "The Green Mile."

I enjoyed this very much. It was a little clunky in places but I enjoyed the gnostic angle and that you never knew who Shay really was even at the end. This book makes me realize how much I must be craving substantive literature because I couldn't get enough. I need to stop reading junk.
