This one started off really good and I liked Griffin and Pauline together but his friend and stuff in end got messy, still I enjoyed it.

What I like about romance novels is the total lack of stakes and limited emotional investment in any of the characters... but this one made me cry and I loved it even more. CW grief

Tessa Dare is wonderful. Her books are always smart witty and funny while also being so romantic and of course a bit steamy. I adored this Spindle cove installment

I adored the FMC. I wish Danny had a bigger role and we got to see her interact with the other characters more. As it stands, her character is sort of just a prop for Pauline's backstory. I get how in these romances the only characters that really matter are the love interests, but it was still a letdown.

I hated the
sex scene where they do like aristocrat/servant class play and he spanks her. And it felt very dumb and contrived how that was supposed to prove that he saw her as an equal and didn't wish she came from a different background.

Griffin is brought to Spindle Cove by his mother to pick a wife, his future duchess, so he picks a working glass woman, a daughter of a farmer, in the hopes of pissing off his mother. However, this shows not to be the case, his mother is determined to have them end up together so continues to train Pauline to be the perfect duchess.

This book was so sweet, Griffin was the typical asshole rake instead he has some real pain and grief that has caused him to not want to get married. There was some major growth on his part and there was some super sweet moments with his mum once he opens up to her. Pauline is so robust and strong while also being so determined to prove she is more than her background.

tropes: rags to riches, damaged MC's, forced proximity
triggers: disabled sister, abusive father, child loss
