For my first venture into John Marrs' world, he effortlessly joins the ranks of authors I'd enthusiastically recommend! Like all of Marrs' works I've read, this book did not disappoint. Get ready for a suspenseful, mind-bending thriller filled with intrigue, deception, and characters you can't help but root against!
This book captivates even without prior knowledge. Who is the Stranger? Could it be Paul, or perhaps Gwent herself as she grapples with her dementia diagnosis, gradually becoming a stranger to her own thoughts? I found myself taking notes, attempting to untangle the mystery. I made lists of characters and noted their trustworthiness. The twist is truly unexpected.
The narrative takes a significant turn early on, setting the stage for the main plot. Without giving too much away, let's just say Paul isn't everyone's favorite, but who knows, perhaps there's a bigger mystery at play! Despite finding his character infuriating, I appreciated how the book stirred such strong emotions in me, compelling me to keep reading, eager to see how it all unfolds.
Most notably, Marrs skillfully uses his book to shed light on inadequate laws related to the central topic. It's fitting for readers to feel provoked by this book, as these issues often mirror real-life occurrences and prompt a call for change – kudos for that. "The Stranger In Her House" is undoubtedly a book that will linger in my thoughts!

This book was incredibly engaging—I found it difficult to put down because I was always eager to see what would happen next. While it had a slow start that took some time to get into, the twists and turns throughout the story kept me hooked. The initial twist completely caught me off guard. However, as the story progressed, some aspects became predictable. Despite that, the ending was a delightful surprise that had me laughing out loud.

Overall, it was an entertaining read with enough intrigue to hold my interest.

This was one of my most highly anticipated 2024 releases and.. John Marrs has done it again 🙌🏽👏🏽 I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it.. Marrs is the KING of thrillers and can do no wrong. I will read anything he writes.

Compelling, disturbing, tense + completely bingeable, this twisted tale of deception had the trademark short, snappy chapters + was full of red herrings and dark twists and turns. I finished this in A DAY. It’s been a long time since I’ve read anything in just one sitting + that’s credit to Marrs’ writing, especially as this wasn’t as fast-paced as his speculative thrillers.

If you think you’ve figured this plot out.. you’re wrong. My jaw dropped as the first big twist revealed at the end of part one. I did NOT see that coming! The anxiety + frustration is palpable as you sympathise with one character, knowing something is off about the other but nobody believing them.. but nothing is at it seems in this disturbing and chilling tale.

Lastly, and most importantly.. THE DEDICATION FOR OSCAR 😭🥹

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in 3 days. If you like a good thriller then I would definitely recommend.  They're lots of twists to this book that kept me wanting to not put it down. I would definitely recommend.  Would definitely read another book by this author. This is my first one.
