I really struggled with this book. The story had potential and then about half way through... it felt like the author really dropped the ball on the second half. The story telling feels very robotic and there are too many awkward scenes to count. All the characters are forgettable and Alex (the protagonist) is unbearable. Her lack of emotions really rub me the wrong way. And then when she does have emotion it is wildly exaggerated. As if the author was following some sort of stereotype about teen girls... Not the worst book I read, but I’m glad I did not have to pay to read it.

Good book! *SPOILERS*

This was a very good book! It was an easy read with easy vocabulary. It’s probably a book for teens, but still, I really enjoyed it.

I believe this books tests our belief in our faith. The angel of death is something we’ve all heard stories about and seen countless idealistic images of aka the grim reaper. Alex’s struggle to cope with her family’s death plus this angel of death haunting us is dramatic. At times I found myself tearing up. She soon comes to realize that in order to save her family she must kill herself. That’s ours. How many of us are willing to really kill ourself in order to save our family? It’s a very selfless act from such a young girl (18).

I liked Alex’s and Carl’s relationship, and I was a little sad when the time change happened and he was with Kate instead. I wasn’t a big fan of Kate, but I honestly don’t know why. She seemed like a good friend.

The scene was the snakes cared the crap out of me.. i don’t know how she was able to stay calm with a bed full of snakes crawling all over her, but this is when she full all realizes that she has the power and that she doesn’t need to fear the angle of death.

The ending was very sad, but we see it coming. I wasn’t sure how she was going to kill herself, but I didn’t imagine that it would be with a gun in the hospital. Such a brave young lady. The scene detailing her feelings after she shoots herself really gave me chills (and more teary eyes).

Anyways, good book. I would recommend it to someone.
