This is a novelization of episode 1 of The Dragon Friends comedy D&D podcast in which a group of Australians pretend to play D&D while they're really just torturing their Dungeon Master (Dave).
It's a free podcast, listen to the first episode, and if you like it you're getting that episode turned into a story (it is novelized, this isn't a transcript). It's short (44 pages) but well written and the illustrations work well. You can definitely see the influence of authors like Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett, and fans of Robert Bevan's Critical Failure/Caverns and Creatures series would probably like it. At $10 it's not exactly cheap for a slim volume (and it costs more to mail stuff if you're not in Australia), but they're giving away the podcast for free, and if you want to support the creators this could be a great way to do it. And you get a well written re-telling of the first episode from a different point of view.
