This one seemed a bit off - all the characters seemed off kilter in this one, both the book-specific characters and the recurring characters. If you are looking for cosy: this isn't it, between the long-past child disappearance and the very gory death at the end - but the last few chapters also picked up the pace and were very well done.

I enjoyed this eerie and suspenseful mystery. There were some surprises that I did not guess were around the corner and a library also figures prominently into the story - and so those two reasons make me like it!

Another excellent addition to the series, this one had the saddest and bleakest end yet.

I enjoyed the book, but found the ending anticlimactic. Like alright, the dad loses three kids because of this guy so he puts him through a wood saw as revenge. Damn. The pacing had also been pretty steady until the end where it seems rushed to finish up. I liked all the characters well enough though there were some clear red herrings.
Moderate: Child death, Murder, Sexism, Violence, and Suicide

This is the first in the series I've read, and I'm sorry I didn't run across Edwards earlier.
The Lake District is an unusual setting, one that makes me want to read the others in the series. I liked the characters, both the good guys and the bad guys. They seemed like real people who have made choices they live with daily.
And I'm dying to visit a residential library. How cool would that be?

this was a good story but the pacing was to slow for me and was more focused on the detectives life than the case in hand i wont be checking out the other books

Could not personally get in to this novel, perhaps as I read it unaware it was the 3rd in a series. To me the characters felt very flat and not properly introduced, however this could be down to me having not read the firs two; although the book had no clear indication it was part of a series, and I have read many other series that re-introduced characters to aid people in the same situation i found myself in.
