Thanks to Netgalley.com and Candlewick Press for early access to this title.
Very cute! This is a wonderful story all told in poetic form about an adventure Emily Dickinson had with her young neighbors, all going to see the circus arrive in Amhurst. This is based on true characters and a true event. I read this as a galley, and the illustrations were all just in rough form, but look to be promising. I really enjoyed this little tale, and liked that the author put one of Dickinson's actual poems in the book right at the end. This is a great way to introduce kids to Emily Dickinson and give them a bit of insight into her life and personality.

Told in free verse poetry, this is one episode in the life of Emily Dickinson and the children who grew up as her neighbors.

Rather twee and treacle-y story of Emily Dickinson having an adventure with some neighbor children. It was written in verse. I was not a fan. The illustrations were disappointing too.

A delightful friendship story that happens to have Emily Dickinson in it. Kids who enjoy the easy going nature of the Penderwicks will enjoy this adorable tale.

I usually really like books written in verse, and I've always been interested in Emily Dickinson. But this book just wasn't that fabulous to me. The structure seemed really forced at times.

This novel in verse relates a story about Emily Dickinson and her neighbor children. Based on real people, this novel in verse is appropriate for grades 2-8, although the appeal will mostly be in the mid grades.
Black and white pencil sketch illustrations by Matt Phelan add to the story of Emily and the children sneaking out in the night when the circus comes to town.

Sweet little story with the rapture and love of life that seems ever present in Dickenson's poetry.
