I feel like I will always have a hate-appreciation relationship with Nabokov. But "Lolita", as it was its purpose (or as I see its purpose), utterly grossed me out. Cannot even appreciate it as a book in itself, simply because I detest the subject so fully.

It is absolutely insane to me that this isn't Nabokov's native language. Truly a love letter to the English language.

unsettling, disgusting but written so so so well; i expected nothing less from the well-deserved high praises, specifically towards the writing style. 
i did feel the NEED to necessarily finish this, which perhaps affected the way i rated its overall. in the future i would like to go back, revisit and reread.
