I picked this up after reading about it in Teju Cole's book of essay Known and Strange Things. The first half is a series of poems about Walcott's native island and the Caribbean. These poems are layered and beautiful, a clear-eyed portrait of a home. The second half, which feature poems written about and set in other places didn't hold my attention quite as well. However, the title poem, which is also the last, is a powerful work, connecting a morning in Arkansas with the horrors of apartheid in South Africa. A really gorgeous, stunning read.
