Bearing in mind that I'm coming at this having fallen in love with the tv show and thus have the characters firmly in mind already, I thought this was full of character and oozing style--a delightful diversion. But it's hard to separate what I already know from what's there on the page.

What a genuine delight, I was very gratified to see that the TV show was a fairly faithful adaptation of the original. I loved the TV show, and somehow I didn't even realize that it was a book series. A series of 22 books no less! I've definitely got a lot of my reading for the rest of the year sorted out now. I enjoy the characters very much, I think the TV show did a fairly faithful job of recreating the characters, with the only major changes being dots personality and Phryne being more romantic towards Bert, whereas in the show it's more of a sibling kind of affection between the two of them. One thing I'm looking forward to seeing in the rest of the series is whether the romance with Robinson develops the same way as it does in the TV show, or whether that's just something created for the show.

I picked up the book because I love the show, and I am impressed with how they are different yet the same in all the best ways. The show is definitely a loving adaptation.

I'm drawn to British mysteries which take place in the 1910's and 20's; an Agatha Christie fixation I suppose. Even though most of this one takes place in Australia, it's still very enjoyable and well worth reading.

I liked the tv series a lot better. I love looking at all Phryne's beautiful clothes on the show, but didn't really care to read about it for most of the book. It seems she is changing outfits every few hours and we are given a huge description of what it looks like....

It was a bit too fluffy for me, I like my mysteries to have a bit more oomph to them.
