Anna's cyncism got to me a bit in this book, and it took a bit too long for the characters to unravel the mystery, but I enjoyed the story quite a bit.

I must say I really enjoyed this book...all up until the denouement. Spoiler alert (but not really): the ending seemed quite far-fetched and contrived. Pulled out of thin air, really, and not very believable. Otherwise, the rest of the novel was brilliantly paced and had me puzzling over who the killer was. The ending didn't live up to the rest of the book. But I love the Anna Pigeon series and this was still a rewarding read.

A nice but bland entry to the Anna Pigeon series. The mystery was way to easy to figure out in this book and there were other side stories that drew away from the over all story that distracting and didn't need to be there. A good chunk of this book was spent educating the reader about grizzly bears.

Anna is in another park to help with a government study when after a brush with a bear she and the expert get separated from their young assistant. From there they find a body of a woman who turns out to be their assistant's stepmother. From there the story breaks into 3 mini-mysteries. Who killed the assistant's stepmother, what is the assistant hiding (because he refuses to help with the investigation and isn't sad his stepmother is dead) and who is the mysterious boy they find up in the mountains.

A quite enjoyable entry in this series. Lots of great descriptions of the Glacier Park and interesting grizzly bear lore.

Pretty solid. I like her style and the subject matter is fun. I have a few more titles I would like to read (sticking to the ones with settings of national parks I'm interested in!)

I've loved all the Anna Pigeon mysteries, but for some reason, this one stands out as my favorite thus far.

I was very glad to get back to the Anna Pigeon in the woods. She does a much a better story when she's in the Nation's parks wherever they (and she) are. Nevada Barr seems much more comfortable when Anna is hiking trails, fighting gators, or bears or critters of whatever nature and looking after the tourists who are visiting.
The mystery was a teensy bit convoluted, but that may have had something to do with the fact that I was trying to listen to the story at work and everyone around me was in a highly jovial mood and getting loud, so I might have missed some bits and pieces. I will take a break from the series now. I've had two in a short period of time and I rarely read or listen to books in a series back to back. I do like to mix it up.
Four there's bars in them thar woods beans.....
