I really enjoyed this graphic novel, but the plot tended to be confusing at times. I felt some things were not explained well or unnecessary, but overall it was fun!

SPOILERS AHEAD

The book was fine it started really cute with the magical coffee shop set up. The art is adorable and the characters had potential. I didn't  feel we got enough time to get invested in the main couple before the angst drove them apart so i didn't really care if they got back together. There were also so many side characters and side plots that had little to no relevance on the story. Unfortunately the book made a number of promises it didn't deliver on.

When a character's flaws are highlighted in the way Julie's insecurity was I expected to see some character growth and we got some in the last 3 pages. I didn't feel we fully got to see Julie's new found security.  I personally feel that seeing Julie's new confidence in day to day situations like we did with her insecurity would have made the resolution a lot more fulfilling.

There is this in universe mystery series that both women in the main couple love and bits of that story are scattered throughout the main story and it sets the stories up to be parallels of each other but (and this blends a little into the other unfulfilled promise) that's not what wound up happening and I feel like we didn't need the inserts of this other story.

The villain reveal. Who was that?? This story did not spend nearly enough time developing the villain. His main goal was mentioned early by him, but then never mentioned again by the main characters so it felt inconsequential to the story. They did this big reveal of the villain but it was a character we hadn't met before, so what's the point?

I'm torn on if I want to read the second one because if the writing is better it would be a great series, but I don't think I could sit through another volume just like this.

Okay… this was a stinker I’m sorry. The art is amazing of course but sadly it’s paired with a horrible story, bad writing, unlikable cast, and a horrible romance.
I think this is the least I’ve ever enjoyed a comic. I don’t know why I kept reading. Like yes diversity is great! But that and the art are the only thing going for it. I want diverse comics but I want good stories too. This felt like so many mediocre queer fantasy comics I’ve read before. And don’t get me wrong I love queer stories and I love fantasy. But it’s the cruddy plot but had a lot of diversity so people will excuse the poor writing because it’s diverse. I guess I’m just become a jaded gay. If I was younger I’d probably eat this story up.

Okay so first the characters. I’ve never hated an entire cast so much. I only liked ONE character and that was Cass who was a side character. And she was pretty fun I would like to read her story.
Also I’m sorry I HATE CHET. Usually I don’t mind a annoying characters (for heck’s sake I actually like Scrappy Doo) cuz usually they aren’t too annoying to me but holy shit Chet was so annoying I’m sorry. And they took away from the story so much. They were presented as a side character but ended up being like the main character basically. Selena and Julie are on the cover SHOULDNT it be their story? Usually in series you start off focusing on the leads and then expand on the side characters. Not whatever this was. So the first volume does a terrible job at setting up the leads. We don’t get enough time to like them. And I genuinely have no attachment to these characters.
Julie is just… not likeable I’m sorry. While Chet is annoying Julie… the MAIN CHARACTER. Is just like a horrible lead that the comic tries to make you like. She is not well written. She has no personality really besides
Liking this mystery comic (which is better than the actual comic lol) and having some issues with being a werewolf that weren’t explained enough. Also… she gets offended when someone calls her “lassie” because she thinks they’re calling her “Lassie” like the dog. like that was just bad writing. Has she never heard anyone use that term? It’s pretty common? An example of the bad writing. Her personality is just to create angst and conflict. Like you know I’m a bit of crybaby too but even I was like girl it’s not that serious

Werewolves, sweet cute romance, a hilarious centaur friend, magicians, drama, and more! This book will pull you in and not spit you out until the end.

So I have been meaning to read this book for ages, the cover was what pulled me in. These girls looked adorable and cute together and I wanted to see them get together/go on dates/etc.

But this book is so much more than just cute dates and cute romance. There is some drama and tension when an evil magician steals Chet's magic (aka his centaurness) and he returns to a normal human. It is up to our characters to get the magic back, unmask the fiend that did it, and fix the problems. But between that we also see two girls getting closer together, and Chet going from worrying and feeling depressed to also wondering if the hot Minotaur guy still would like him.

While I did love Julie, I did think, and sorry if this is rude, that she was a bit too oversensitive. The littlest mention of something dog-related and she raised her shackles or acted like the world was ending. I am sorry, maybe if we had a bit more of a backstory on why she is acting like this, I may have understood it a bit more, but now I just found it a bit silly. OMG someone calls me a puppy, oh no, I must immediately humpfh and leave this building. Girrrrllll....
But I did love her, and I could understand that it wasn't always easy for her to be a werewolf. Especially when one just changes without warning when emotions rise. So I was delighted that she had found a fellow werewolf girl who loves/likes her and was there for her when she needed a cuddle or a hug.
I did also like that she was a barista (albeit a bit clumsy).

Pluspoints go to Cass for being totally epic and fun. I loved her going in prophecy/vision mode and it was always interesting to hear her prophecies.

I also love the rest of the cast (well the good guys at least), they are so diverse and fun.

Oh and it was quite interesting that this isn't a world with just supernatural creatures, but that there are also humans. I would like to see more of how this world works. Are there more humans? How is the relationship between supernatural and humans?

The reason why I am not rating this book a full 5 stars, or even more is due to two points that I didn't like. One the magician and how that was handled. There was such a build-up, so much planning, so much research, and some smaller battles, but then it ends in a very anti-climax and easy/lazy way. Not a bang, but more like a fizz and problem solved.
Then there were those Pleasant Mountain Sisters that were just so boring that I eventually was dreading it when they came around. It definitely didn't help that the style didn't fit the main comic at all.

The art (well the main comic one) is soft, adorable, and pretty. I just adore the way the artist drew the characters.

I hope that there are going to be more volumes in this series, I need to see more Julie and Selena, and of course the ever fun Chet. :)
