Wow this book got me. It started out a bit confusing and overwhelming with a lot of info dumping and jumping timelines, but it was soon evident how things were connected and I was deeply engrossed in the story. The perfect anti-hero, I detested Antonio and then somewhere along the way loved him and was rooting for him. A story of vengeance and debt and pride and family. I could not put it down at one point and listened to the entire thing in one day.

The audiobook is FANTASTIC and truly brought especially the larger than life Antonio right from the story and will stay in my mind forever.

There is a lot to like with The Bullet Swallower, from the characters to the setting to the story of familial redemption and paying for the sins of the past. But what stands out most for me is the way the story is structured. Going back and forth between two timelines was very interesting, though I do wish the connecting point of Remedio was fleshed out a bit more. He was a mysterious character, but I could’ve used a bit more definition around him to answer some questions which were never resolved.

A great western tale of revenge and redemption, with a good mix of magical realism.
