Dit verhaal heeft mij traag maar zeker toch overhaald. Het is moeilijk om niet mee te voelen met de hoofdpersonages. Ik vond ze alle drie ook even interessant, iets wat ik niet veel heb bij een boek met meerdere verhaallijnen en perspectieven. Waar ik in het begin het verhaal misschien wat te simpel en steretiep vond, groeide het uiteindelijk toch uit tot iets dat sterke gevoelens bij mij losmaakte. Zeker als het gaat over welke rol vrouwen tegenover mannen hadden doorheen de geschiedenis. Het verhaal verteld over vroeger en nu en zal volgens mij nog heel lang heel relevant blijven door de onderwerpen die aan bod komen.

emotional read at some points, sexual assault, domestic violence, but the message was beautiful. never underestimate or take the women in your life/family/around you for granted

Truly a 5 star one for me. The story is told from three different points of view, 3 different women. Althea (1619) is awaiting trial where she has been accused of being a witch. Violet (1942) is in her father's care, not understanding what ever happened to her mother and becoming more and more curious. Kate (2019) is escaping an abusive relationship to head towards Weyward Cottage, which she has inherited from her great aunt. (NOTE: If abuse is a trigger for you personally, this may not be your book)

During the reading of the book, I kept changing which storyline I was more attached to, and it kept changing. The storylines are woven together in a magical way that celebrates the strong women they all are.

INCREDIBLE debut novel. Simply incredible.
