Eulogy by Rachel Van Dyken

This is my absolute favorite of the Eagle Elite books. Because it's the culmination of so many events across the series, I don't think it's a book that can be enjoyed on it's own. Rachel Van Dyken does give a little bit of background info and you might be OK only reading this - but minimally, I'd read Entice, Empire, & Enrage. I also appreciate this book the most because it completely leaves the NA element behind bringing all characters into full adulthood. Chase is so broken but determined in this one - a true "anti-hero" and Luciana brings a naivete that proves to be a balm to his battered soul. There's no denying that while their road is fraught with danger Chase & Luc are so perfect for each other.

This book is also provides a bit of a set up for Debase, the first book in a spin-off series, Elite Bratva Brotherhood.

A note about the audiobook:

I am incredibly disappointed. One of my favorite things about the recordings for this series is that each character has his/her own narrator. Pretty much throughout the books. Until now. These narrators were in the last book (Enrage) but playing different characters. Which kills the cohesion achieved up to this point. Most of the chapters are told from Chase (David Brenin) or Luciana's (Scarlett Chase) POV. But there are chapters by Nixon, Phoenix, Tex, Andrei & Trace. Nixon, Phoenix, & Andrei are still narrated by David Brenin but Tex is narrated by Rob Shapiro and Trace is narrated by Kit Swann.

I'm especially disappointed that Scarlet Chase was cast again. I love her as a narrator (Blacktop Cowboys series is phenomenal), but she definitely has a "mature" voice which doesn't fit with the 19-24yo characters she keeps narrating.

At the beginning of each chapter is a little "blurb" that's a quote from "Agent P". I really wish they'd chosen a narrator just for these quotes. Even having read & listened to the book several times, it's kind of confusing to know who is talking because it changes depending on who is narrating that particular chapter. (See above about narrator roulette).

Probably the most distracting thing about the recording is that Scarlet Chase pronounces Luciana as "loo-chee-ah-na" and her nickname "Luc" as "Luke". The book specifically describes "Luc" to be pronounced "Luke". While David Brenin pronounces Luciana as "loo-cee-ah-na" and the nickname as "loose". Considering Luciana/Luc appears in the book over 150 times - this is a HUGE oversight and incredibly annoying.

Definitely buy the book, but I'd encourage you to pass on adding the audiobook to your library.

Best of the series yet!!

Wow, just wow! I loved this book in the eagle elite series. I feel like it's the best yet. I thought Luciana was totally unexpected and her quiet yet stubborn way was the best thing four Chase and all his anger and grief. I loved how we got all different povs, and the shock as well!!!! You definitely see growth in all the characters.

I RARELY read books with more than 3 in the series. I get tired of the world....this mafia world is one I've revisit because the author keeps the story on different people.

I was sucked into this dark and painful world from the very first page! This is the first book from this author I’ve read and first in this series( yes I know it’s out of order 🤷🏾‍♀️) but I never felt like I couldn’t keep up. The drama was crazy, the plot twist I didn’t see coming. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was so intrigued by all the men in this book. Bu chase with his broken heart and and rage stole my heart reading it. Fantastic book

Re-Read 2021

Ah Chase - used to hate you in the beginning (The Elect ect.), because I thought you tried too hard to steal something that was never yours and you sold yourself short in the process of it.

But this book made me understand his character much more and I loved how vulnerable he was. But the real star(s) of the book were Andrei and Luc. I loved all the little Agent P snippets we got. And Luc is like my ideal way to be. Favourite female character in the whole series (including the second generation).

I have been waiting for Eulogy since I finished Enrage. The Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken is one that has to be read in order. Though you could try and read some of these books as standalones, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Each book follows the events of what has already happened in the series and continues to build on the story, and readers not having read the previous books could be lost and have trouble understanding. This series is one of my all time favorites and the books are fantastic, so I definitely think they are worth reading from the start for those that haven't read them yet.

I won't go into much of the story here, because I don't want to spoil anything and for those that have read this series, should be pretty up to date on what has happened. This book is Chase Abandonato's story, and he is a very different guy than he once was. I have loved Chase from the very beginning, and honestly if I had to pick a favorite character he would probably be it. My heart absolutely broke for him and all that he had been through and it was honestly hard to get through at times because I just love his character so much!

Seeing Chase experience all that he did, and seeing what it turned him into was really emotional for me. I felt this book so much more than most of the previous books, and I loved it even when it was difficult to process everything that was happening. While I know some will be upset with the direction this series has taken, I honestly love it. Rachel Van Dyken has written a series that is unpredictable and raw, and I love that I never know what will happen next. While that can be scary at times, I have to say that after reading this book, I noticed so much more than I ever did before and I feel like my eyes have been opened to so much that I missed previously. Knowing what I know now after finishing Eulogy, I really believe that Rachel Van Dyken has taken this series and the characters exactly where they are meant to be. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it. This series is a must read for me and is one that I will never stop recommending it because I really believe that it is one not to be missed!

I went into this book broken then as I started this, I became shattered and as Chase spiraled so did my heart, it hurt me that he wasn’t the Chase from before and I loved him even more although a few times I would have liked to jump in the book and be the one who inflicted some pain on him.

Luciana was everything because she was different than any character in this whole series.

I don’t want to give anything away so I will just say this book made my feels explode and it was worth it, every single word.

I have enjoyed all of the Eagle Elite series and have been #teamtex since the beginning but after this book Chase has stolen my heart. This book was packed full of emotions, it had all the ups and downs, especially with Chase being so confused asking why? to the anger that ate him alive and consumed him. He feels the ultimate betrayal and nothing will get in his way of his plans to destroy, even himself then comes in innocent Luc and it just tosses everything he had planned upside down. They had chemistry but Chase was so determined to hate that it took him a while to see what was before him but once Luc set her sights on helping him he didn’t stand a chance. I have re read this story twice already and it gets better each time because not only is it emotional but it has a bunch of twists and turns that a reader probably won’t see coming. Can’t wait to see what is next for this series. Oh and I’ll never look at bagels the same way again 😊
