Overall Rating: 9/10 - This is basically a re-read for me as I have been reading Naruto since 2002, and I read every initial chapter release. There is just so much I can say about Naruto all of it Naruto, except the Kaguya part. I firmly believe it was a useless plot in a way and i would have been more content if we would have gone directly to the Naruto/ Sasuke fight after Madara's "defeat" (seriously he wasn't defeated just used, like Obito, like so many others....). I don't feel like I should recommend this series, as it is pretty well known/ mainstream.

Do I recommend it:

"Love Letter To Manga": I'm sorry I called you kids books when I was little. I'm sorry it's taken me years to read you. I'm sorry that I don't have enough money to read more of you. I still don't appreciate your monologues in the middle of fights just to add backstory and lengthen scenes, but I forgive you for now. And, Thank You - Naruto - for bringing me my first manga joy. Sincerely, William.

Oh boy oh boy, where do we start here? This volume moves with adrenaline, and it's no wonder why, given that Gaara is coming undone. Sasuke can eat a brick for all the good he's doing, and honestly it's pretty significant that Gaara rattles off to him about hatred later on, as we know, but he still manages to do a whole lot of nothing. (To no one's surprise, the same proves true of Sakura once she and Naruto arrive on the scene.)

Normally when revisiting stories I'm already familiar with, especially in manga, I do expect a certain degree of lesser impact from story beats. After all, you can't read a book for the first time twice, right? Even if you revisit something you've read before, the most you can hope for is that time has allowed you to grow and change to the point that maybe certain elements or beats that you didn't pay much attention to when you were younger hit you with more oomph and you develop new appreciation for them. But sometimes you connect with a story or with characters in a way that even when you're expecting the rougher moments they have, it still hits you with just as much emotional impact as the first time you read. For me, this is true of Gaara between the flashbacks that give us his backstory, and the moments where we see Naruto recognize his own pain in Gaara and empathize with him.

Everything about Gaara's story hurts and I think anyone who's ever been ostracized before can relate to it. That's part of what makes it so powerful, and I think that's only cemented by the fact that Naruto is able to empathize with him so quickly. That kind of pain and the struggle to understand why you're enduring it is familiar and powerful, and it really is a testament to Naruto's character that he is willing to recognize that in Gaara and feel for him even as he is taking a stand against him.

Of course there's more to the volume, there's more that's happening even as it ends on a cliffhanger, but I think that's really a key thing in this volume, is the need to understand and empathize with one another. That was so beautifully executed.
