A truly amazing book. This story will captivate you till the last page. There are parts where you want to hate the father for the way he is but you also get a glimpse of the pain he is going through. The ending opens your eyes and encourages you to just let go of everything.

Incredible writing; despite the unappealing premise, this story was engrossing and compelling, though it took a couple of chapters to provide entré.

I discovered this book via the movie of the same name (adapted from the book), which I stumbled upon on TV a few years back. I was immediately captivated by this dysfunctional family. (Yes, I know every family is dysfunctional, but this family gives new meaning to the word dysfunctional.) I was worried that the book might be a disappointment, because I'd already seen the movie. I need not have worried. The characters in the book are even larger than life than their movie counterparts. If you're looking for a novel that features psychologically complex characters and an often hilarious (although dark, dark) plot line, this is the book for you.
