the production of the audiobook was great, but the story itself was far too different from the movie (my fave btw) so i'm quite sad about that

The amount of detail and specific choices written into Sweeny Todd creates a powerful piece of work. The intricate music and harmonies are impressive that help tell the story in a way that wouldn't be possible without them.

I was super confused as i was reading and listening as to why this libretto didn’t contain Turpin’s “Johanna” in the actual text, but then i remembered it’s kind of a deleted scene and was glad to see it included at the end of the book as an addendum.

Also as someone who has never seen a production of the show: Mrs. Lovett’s first name is Nellie?!

I've never seen the movie/musical but been intrigued by the story. Whenever I hear about Sweeney Todd it's either the movie or musical that's been talked about, never the book. So I was a bit wary going into it but it's wasn't needed. Enjoyed the story quite a lot. Very creepy and a good horror classic. Definitely has that feel of "old creepy yet cozy horror" a good classic has. Intriguing of giving the movie a try

I saw this book at a recent book sale and was glad I picked it up. It presents the script of the original production (from back in 1979), which includes parts that have not made it into more recent productions (in film or revival productions).

I could remember the music well enough to track along while reading. For someone who is a fan of the musical, this is a good read.
