Hockey hotties? Let me at 'em!
I haven't read the first book in the Colorado Ice series, however this didn't affect my reading of Maybe This Love.
I am a sucker for a hockey romance, and whilst I enjoyed the hockey side of things, I had a few issues with the heroine in this story, lawyer Olivia Davis.
She is 36 years old, but at times it felt like she was 15 years younger. She make some ridiculous decisions that made me wonder at times if she was really a lawyer?
Ben Westmore though - Yeah, I kinda dig the guy, even if he makes some dumb a$$ moves. What happens in Vegas really doesn't stay in Vegas after all!
I like the spark and attraction between our lovelies, the bite and snark from their first meetings. You can't help but want them to find a HEA.
There are plenty of fun and engaging characters in this book, especially among Ben's family.
So while this might not be a favourite book of mine, it was sweet and cute.

Aus versehen geheiratet. So ergeht es Ben Westmore. Nach einer durchzechten Silvesternacht erfährt er vier Monate später das er verheiratet ist. Nur das er sich an nichts erinnern kann, noch nicht mal an seine Ehefrau. Um so mehr interessiert er sich aber für die Anwältin Olivia, die seine Frau vertritt. Sie fasziniert ihn und das nicht allein um mit ihr ins Bett zu gehen, sondern als Frau.
Olivia hat eigentlich nicht vor Ben besser kennen zu lernen, zumal er auch noch zu den Profisportler gehört, die im allgemein immer sehr von sich eingenommen sind. Doch das Knistern zwischen den beiden kann keiner ignorieren.
Die Geschichte der beiden hat mich sehr gefesselt. Sie ist charmant und ehrlich und hat mich irgendwie verzaubert.
Die Autorin schafft es den sportlichen Aspekt der Handlung genau richtig einzufließen, da Geschichten mit Sportler auch schnell langweilig werden können.
Beide Charaktere sind an einen Punkt im Leben wo es um Veränderung geht und welche Zukunft man gerne hätte. Für Olivia ist es eine Familie gründen während Ben denkt es wäre das Gewinnen des Cups. Beide harmonieren gut miteinander und kommen realistisch rüber, da ihrer Selbstzweifel nur natürlich sind. Den Auftritt der Mutter feier ich sehr, die Dialoge sind da einfach nur genial. Es ist schön zu lesen dass die anderen Charaktere immer auch einen Auftritt haben und man so erfährt wie es mit ihnen weiter geht.

Meinung: Das bläuliche Cover mit der geschwungenen schwarzen Schrift ist total schön. Es ist perfekt auf die restlichen Cover der Reihe abgestimmt, ebenso wie der Titel. Die Farben des Titels drücken genau das aus, was man von dem Buch erwarten kann: gute Laune und eine zuckersüße Liebesgeschichte. Sie wird aus der personalen Erzählweise geschrieben, so dass man genau erfährt, was die beiden Protagonisten denken und fühlen. Übersetzt wurde die Geschichte von Wanda Martin. Der Schreibstil hat mich genauso wie die Vorgänger mehr als nur überzeugt. Die Geschichte lässt sich sehr flüssig und schön lesen. Auch die Charaktere sind toll ausgearbeitet.
Olivia war mir auf Anhieb sympathisch. Auch wenn sie wie eine knallharte selbstbewusste Anwältin und Frau herüber kommt , zeigt sie auch ihre weichen und verletzlichen Seiten. Sie wünschen sich nichts mehr als ein Baby. Sie ist sogar so mutig, dass sie sich künstlich befruchten lässt. Das dieses Thema vorkam fand ich interessant.
Ben habe ich direkt ins Herz geschlossen. Direkt am Anfang merkt man schon, dass ihm sein Ruhm nicht so wichtig ist. Er ist bodenständig und liebt seinen Job und Familie. Auch wenn er als Playboy gilt und betrunken geheiratet hat, steckt mehr dahinter.
Seine Familie hatte auch einige Auftritte. Wie auch schon in den anderen Teilen, ist sie auch hier großartig. Man kann diese Familie einfach nur lieben.
Selbst Bens Ehefrau wurde mir gegen Ende noch sympathisch.

This is a quick, somewhat predictable read. The plot and how the main characters met are unique though. Even though the characters from book one are in this book, it can be read as a standalone.
Ben is a really good guy in a bad situation. He is super sweet and very grounded even though he’s a famous hockey player. Other than the few texts he received, his ‘player’ personality doesn’t really show. I’d call him more of a commitment-phobe and that’s with good reason.
Olivia is a bit confusing. She’s making a life altering decision even though she hasn’t really even tried to be in a relationship with a man. She makes several unethical decisions where Ben is concerned and she’s a bit wishy-washy at times.
I don’t feel like their story is over so I’m actually hoping they show up in the next book. I’m assuming the next book will be about Asher and there was a bit of foreshadowing with him in this one.
The writing was pretty good but I’m a huge hockey fan and there were a couple of inaccuracies about the playoffs that bugged me a little. 1) The 2nd round of the playoffs is the semi-finals which would lead to the conference finals, not the cup finals. 2) If Colorado was home for the first game of the cup finals, then they would stay at home for game 2, not go on the road. The format is 2-2-1-1-1. 3) There is never a shootout in overtime in the playoffs; they play until someone wins.
Overall, this book is as good as book one and if you’re looking for a quick, albeit predictable, romance story this would be a good book for you.

My favorite of the series so far! I started reading Maybe This Love on the subway one day, and I just couldn't stop--even for work! The chemistry between Ben and Olivia is tangible and for that reason, their story is addictive. There is so much more to Ben than I could have imagined based on the glimpses of him in the first two books, and I really, really liked what I saw. And Olivia, she's spunky, and I admire her for going after what she wants. I sincerely appreciated the fact that the drama with Olivia's client was minimal, and generally, Maybe This Love was a light-hearted and fun romance! I only wish there was an epilogue because I was a bit unsatisfied with the brief reunion, but I'm still more excited than ever to continue on with this series!

I didn't love Maybe This Love QUITE as much as I loved Maybe This Time, but I still really enjoyed every moment of this hockey romance.
Our two main characters, Ben and Olivia, have unreal chemistry. Ben is the star player of the Colorado Avalanche, and he's your stereotypical superstar athlete. He likes to live fast until his mistakes catch up with him. Olivia is a star in her own right; a divorce attorney who has taken down many millionaire men.borh main characters are complicated and messy, with their own lives outside of the romance between them. Just like in the first book of the series, the steamy scenes were excellent and the pacing was on-point.
My only complaint is that I would have liked a little more hockey in this hockey romance!

tl;dr: great story mired in awkward prose - less picky readers will love this

The story:
I hadn't realized that hockey player romances were such a widespread phenomenon, but in the past few weeks, I've read 3 of them, all by different authors, and to varying degrees of enjoyment. I tend to compare most sports romance to [author:Susan Elizabeth Phillips|41313] and her wonderful Chicago Stars series, which centers on a pro-football team and all the varying people involved in it. The thing that is particularly striking with that series is that the books don't really need to be read in publication order. The stories stand on their own.
I think maybe that was the intention with this book too, but there were so many things I felt may have been cleared up in the previous books (which I did not read). This book uses a real hockey team (The Colorado Avalanche) but fails to ever mention which position Ben plays. (I think he might be captain, according to a brief mention of a C on his jersey. That means captain, right?) And much of the personality of the hero isn't clearly established, leaving me to wonder if maybe his "playboy" persona is more clearly established in a previous book. He does get random calls from women on his phone a lot, but we don't get a lot of evidence that he's the womanizer the book claims that he is. (Particularly since they make a point to say he supports 3 children's charities? Whaaaa...?)
Olivia, on the other hand, seems to be going to multiple directions at once. She's clearly competent at her job, but she's pursuing artificial insemination in order to have a baby ... because ... ? She feels an emptiness? I kept thinking the whole time that her backstory was too much, although I couldn't exactly put my finger on why. She has dead parents, no time for romance, and a lack of friends and support, so deciding to have a baby rather than try to find a fulfilling hobby seems misguided. We aren't given much of a reason other than she wants to recreate her blissful memories of childhood.
The way Ben and Olivia meet was really interesting and unique - he accidentally got married after one night of drinking to oblivion out of sadness, and she is representing his wife in their divorce settlement. Their growing flirtation and attraction was great, lots of push and pull between them as they both struggle with it and any possible complications. Ben's turn around from playboy to commitment guy seemed quick, although I did find Olivia's romantic arc well-plotted. I did love their romance, all the gestures and the way that they did actually seem to like each other's company.
The ending was abrupt but I think overall satisfying. I enjoyed many of the other characters, like Ben's family (the Westmores are the subject of this series, not the hockey team like many of these sports series are). His mom especially was heartwarming and funny. It's always great to have a comedic foil to a son that's macho and cocky, and Mrs. Westmore was that.
Technical notes:
While I overall enjoyed this story, this book really suffered from a lack of a good editor. There were lots of scenes that were confusing, mostly because I couldn't picture it clearly in my mind. For instance, the sex scene. I couldn't tell which person was on top. That is a clear narrative issue. There were several sentences that I had to read repeatedly, in order to figure out what was being said. While technically grammatically correct, romance novels aren't the place for esoteric phrasing, particularly if it's not the style of the entire thing. The book vacillates between clear prose and these awkward, clunky phrases that desperately needed to be rewritten.
There are some minor continuity issues as well. For example, Olivia asks Ben at one point if he's lived in Glenwood Falls (small town outside of Denver? It's never clear) all of his life. But, she knows that he hasn't, because the woman she was representing in court met him in another town, where he went to elementary school before the family moved to Glenwood Falls.
This line also made me pause: "Her boss, Lyle Kingsley, had hired her expecting she'd develop her client list on the other side of the proceedings–representing the athletes." He'd expected this, although she'd made her reputation representing the wives of pro athletes? It's established that Olivia had been a great lawyer for those women, at least for several years, and had even represented someone in the previous book while she was still at her L.A. office.
Final thoughts:
I would desperately love to edit this author's future books because there is potential for an amazing story here, well-written and clever and her ability to draw out sexual tension believably was pretty great. The cast of characters are mostly lovable and interesting. For many people, the technical issues won't bother them. After all, Twilight has amassed millions of fans and I just can't even with that prose. There is a line between mediocre and brilliant, and I think in the hands of a great editor, this book could nose its way toward the latter.

The story:
I hadn't realized that hockey player romances were such a widespread phenomenon, but in the past few weeks, I've read 3 of them, all by different authors, and to varying degrees of enjoyment. I tend to compare most sports romance to [author:Susan Elizabeth Phillips|41313] and her wonderful Chicago Stars series, which centers on a pro-football team and all the varying people involved in it. The thing that is particularly striking with that series is that the books don't really need to be read in publication order. The stories stand on their own.
I think maybe that was the intention with this book too, but there were so many things I felt may have been cleared up in the previous books (which I did not read). This book uses a real hockey team (The Colorado Avalanche) but fails to ever mention which position Ben plays. (I think he might be captain, according to a brief mention of a C on his jersey. That means captain, right?) And much of the personality of the hero isn't clearly established, leaving me to wonder if maybe his "playboy" persona is more clearly established in a previous book. He does get random calls from women on his phone a lot, but we don't get a lot of evidence that he's the womanizer the book claims that he is. (Particularly since they make a point to say he supports 3 children's charities? Whaaaa...?)
Olivia, on the other hand, seems to be going to multiple directions at once. She's clearly competent at her job, but she's pursuing artificial insemination in order to have a baby ... because ... ? She feels an emptiness? I kept thinking the whole time that her backstory was too much, although I couldn't exactly put my finger on why. She has dead parents, no time for romance, and a lack of friends and support, so deciding to have a baby rather than try to find a fulfilling hobby seems misguided. We aren't given much of a reason other than she wants to recreate her blissful memories of childhood.
The way Ben and Olivia meet was really interesting and unique - he accidentally got married after one night of drinking to oblivion out of sadness, and she is representing his wife in their divorce settlement. Their growing flirtation and attraction was great, lots of push and pull between them as they both struggle with it and any possible complications. Ben's turn around from playboy to commitment guy seemed quick, although I did find Olivia's romantic arc well-plotted. I did love their romance, all the gestures and the way that they did actually seem to like each other's company.
The ending was abrupt but I think overall satisfying. I enjoyed many of the other characters, like Ben's family (the Westmores are the subject of this series, not the hockey team like many of these sports series are). His mom especially was heartwarming and funny. It's always great to have a comedic foil to a son that's macho and cocky, and Mrs. Westmore was that.
Technical notes:
While I overall enjoyed this story, this book really suffered from a lack of a good editor. There were lots of scenes that were confusing, mostly because I couldn't picture it clearly in my mind. For instance, the sex scene. I couldn't tell which person was on top. That is a clear narrative issue. There were several sentences that I had to read repeatedly, in order to figure out what was being said. While technically grammatically correct, romance novels aren't the place for esoteric phrasing, particularly if it's not the style of the entire thing.
