Lansdale's pacing is so swift and his dialogue is so snappy that it's easy to get caught up in one of his books and then finish it. I don't think I'll ever be sold on how he writes Leonard, but that's complicated as he's mostly depicted from Hap/Lansdale's perspective. The actual plot and dynamics of Mucho Mojo pick up well from Savage Season, but there isn't much further development. The personal stakes are lower, or at least they are for Hap... I get the feeling that this might have been considered more of a Leonard story, with Hap and him switching roles from the previous book. But that doesn't quite work while Hap is still the narrator.
