The writing wasn't for me. The story was advertised as a romance, and it just isn't. You cannot help but feel hopeless throughout the entire time reading this.
The main character (Lucky) feels numb all the time, is used by her family and friends, and never stands up for herself. I didn't find her love story realistic, as her former best friend surely had to have change in their years apart, and yet she is still so hung up on her.
Lucky rejects the community she was born into, and while I appreciated reading about the family's religion/tradition, I couldn't help noticing the amount of colourism in the author's words.
