Beautiful. I like the use of Spanish words, and the richness of the English.

5***** and a ❤
Subtitle: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré.
This picture book biography is marvelously illustrated by Paola Escobar. I can practically hear the noise of the ferries, traffic, sewing machines, and the laughter of children entertained by Belpré’s puppet shows.
I loved the story, which is simple enough for children to absorb, but detailed enough to engage an adult. I practically appreciated the author’s note which delves a bit deeper into Belpré’s extraordinary influence.

This is a beautifully written book with such an amazing story. Planting Stories is a biography of Pura Belpre. When she first moved to America, she began as a Puerto Rican librarian, telling her stories to the children. She had many stories for her country, and she knew that they needed to be shared. As she moved around with her husband still sharing her stories, she starts a new chapter. After he passed, Pura goes back to the library and sees that the roots that she planted bloomed and other story tellers were their sharing their stories. I would form a lesson around this book about Pura and her amazing life and the amazing things she left behind.

This book is a must-have for libraries, classrooms, and families. It is such an amazing story of Pura Belpre and her life as an author, storyteller, wife and librarian. I am in awe. The illustrations feel like you are in New York and feel like a museum because there is so much to see and admire. Wow!
